Anyone know what the amp rating is on the V6 cars ? Those will fit was well, and they are actually side-post ( instead of the V8 top post ) no biggie, just a little more easy on the eyes.

They're the same 130A alternator. They just had that side post converter on them.

I should have my 6G writeup done tomorrow. I'll post it up on my website when its available.

These are a direct fit with no modification to the bracket requiered... at least for the 84 - but I don't recall bracket differences between SVO years.

I did this years ago on my 84, 2003 while I was at FFW in ohio to be exact. I picked up the 3G from Advanced auto for 250 because the two local Ford dealerships did not have any. The swap took me about two hours total and that includes going to three hole in the wall garages to get the pully swapped over. One thing to keep in mind is the shaft on the 3G's is way shorter than the stock SVO's. you will need a washer to act as a bushing between the pully and the casing (for the Advance unit) as it will make contact. You will also need perminant lock tite. I was nurvous about this thing coming off, but it never did.

I used very nice well hiden comprehensive instructions from turbotbird.

        3G Alternator install

PS I used a 160 Amp. I think the V6 cars are 130, but I could be dead wrong.

This is the 95 amp 3G list I have.
I prefer the 95 amp (small case), as it has the same size case as the stock alternator, and don't require any grinding.

My 3G came from a aerostar, for $35, then I bought a $40 rebuild kit.

Is the one from the Aerostar the same as the ones in the Taurus/ Sable?? There are a bunch in the local yard and they only want $25ea. Thanks

no -- they aren't -- the internals are the same, but the case is different. They mount differently

If going with one of the 95 amp ones Eric has posted, can the 2 groove pulley still be used?

Yes, you can switch the pulley but I don't think most of those listed will mount on an SVO. I spent 1/2 hour at PepBoys one evening going through Econoline/F-Series alternators and none of them had the proper mount. But then again, it is PepBoys
