is there anything special about the pressure plate bolts?

I started to go put my pressure plate in, and noticed I don't have any bolts.

If hardware store bolts will fit the bill, Size and thread would be nice if anyone knows

    Thanks

well crap - -that puts a dampner on getting the tranny in this weekend --

amazing the things you don't realise are missing when you buy something like this as a basket case.

Sure Mike -- send me the bolts. Just PM or Email me with the $$.

Uhhh damn i guess i'll be taking my car apart soon. For some reason i couldn't find the bolts that hold on my pressure plate, so i went to the hardware store and got some metric botls at 25mm (atleast the length was right). The dealer should carry these right?

i guess i need to be gentle on the clutch. good thing i still have to break in the clutch and motor. I can't believe i couldn't find those darn bolts. UGHHHHH !

did have the dowels in the flywheel. the shop actually pulled those resurfaced it and then reinstalled the dowels. I've heard of other shops just resurfacing the flywheel and shaving off the dowels.

Boostedbruiser -- you might PM Mike - circumstances didn't work out for a deal between us.

ALSO -- you MAY be able to change the bolts without removing the tranny -- I've never tried this, but I think it's possible.

Using a short ratchet with a socket, you can go through the fork hole in the belhousing. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to get to them.

          I'm a dumb A.........

          Thanks for the info.

What about access through the dust sheild or starter area? i could crack the engine to bell housing bolts and see if i can separate the housing enough to move that dust cover. Man this really chaps my hide. But i need to do it right. i don't feel like losing the pressure plate at 6000rpm and lose some toes or worse.

Does anyone know if these are delaer items though? i imagine they would be.

I guess no one has ever tried to change flywheel bolts with tranny still installed, because most people aren't as dumb as me.

Save yourself the frustration and hours trying to get the bolt lined up and pull the tranny. With some air tools you'll have the tranny on the ground in less than a hour. Plus you'll be able to torque the bolts. Also I don't think you'll be able to remove the bolts without a impact gun. I like my Mac Tools Ingersolrand. Air Power!

If you have a GOOD hardware store around, you may be able to find high strength metric bolts in stock. The old hole in the wall store a couple of miles from my place has an absolutely amazing variety of metric fasteners in stock...just about an entire row is nothing but metric stuff. I've been able to get class 10.9 and 12.9 fasteners there to bail me out when I've lost something on more than a few occasions.

Don't use air tools to install the bolts, just for removal. The Red Pen choose to stay with me. It was her decision! I believe all the bolts we're talking about are grade 8.

Ok i meant PRESURE PLATE BOLTS not flywheel. i got my wording incorrect.

I guess i could go back to the hardware store and verify the bolt rating. I know i told the guy i needed the strongest thing he had and told him what i was using them for. that doesn't mean anything though. I'm not familiar with bolt strength ratings anyways. so if i bought grade 8 (i think ) bolts is it strong enough?

as for the flywheel, yea i used the correct bolts and torqued them accordingly.

look what mike said about 'grades' above --
                          You didn't get a metric grade 8 ...

OK OK OK I got it. I had a long day yesterday, so i overlooked the little statement Mr Fleming made.

Man i'm ready to be home.
