  • very high clutch pedal

ok, I stopped driving my 85 5 months ago due to the conclusion here that I had a throw out bearing going bad, So I parked it not wanting to due further damage untill I could convince myself to drop the tranny. (never been a tranny guy and know very little)

so last week I get a spur up my butt and drop the tranny, removed the throw out bearing came out with great ease) and re-install the new one and slap it back together. I took it for a drive to see if it went into gears good and made that mouse sqeel sound, all was good except.

generally my clutch pedal is mid-point of the travel. now it is about as high up as can be.

note the car has 105k on it, new clutch and al that installed at 72k so it only has 30k miles on it or so over the last 7 years. (not hard miles, but not grandpaish)

the paw is stuck on the auto-adjuster... you need to take the handle of a hammer, and stick in there, and release the pressure on it.

it will probably be fine after that, but if it sticks again, you may have the dreaded toasted adjuster disease.

To get the pawl to release, you just pull back/up on the clutch pedal to push the pawl against the release tab. This will allow the quadrant to rotate backward and take up the slack in the cable, since the quadrant is spring loaded. If the quadrant spring or spring retention tab is broken you may have to hand rotate the quadrant back to take up the slack. This should move your clutch engagement back down toward the floor. Good luck.

I attached a couple pictures of the quadrant assembly for reference.

right, but if the paw was already engaged when he swapped the clutch out, he can't pull the pedal high enough to make the paw release.
That's why he will need to take something like the hammer handle, to release it. All should work fine after that.

Did you put the dogbone cable in backwards? Check it.
