I decided to just replace my 20:1 with a 15:1 instead of going with the SN95 like I metioned in a previous post. Everything went smooth and I had to replace the pressure line just like everybody says. But I also had to change the fitting for the return. I took one off of a 1990 GT in the junkyard. here is a pic of the two. The 84 one is on the left. The only reason I am posting this is because I didn't see any metion of this when searching.

Interesting. Definitely a different return line fitting.
When I did the swap on my 84 several years ago, the J/Y 85 GT unit I swapped in came with the steel return line already attached, so I just re-connected my rubber return hose onto it. Because of that, I wasn't aware of the problem.
Easy fix though, as there are plenty of return line fitting donors in the yards!
How do you like the 15:1 rack?

Definately worth the effort. Especially since my inner tie rods were worn. I did a SN95 swap at the same time with 99 Cobra wheels so I can't compare it apples to apples. But definately a major improvement.Originally posted by Eyelawdoc

I changed my 84 over about 6 years ago and in my opinion it is among the best upgrades one can make to an 84. The steering is more linear with much better on-center feel than with the 84 SVO rack. For any 84 SVO owner interested in making their car drive and handle better, this is a MUST!Originally posted by svoman2300
