When did the SVOs switch from the TRW to the Motorcraft steering racks?

The reason I ask is that Energy suspension lists 2 different part #s for upto-9/84 and post-10/84 mustangs for steering rack bushings. I wanna make sure that I get the right ones. I need to check if the previous owner swapped out racks on me. So many things are non-stock on my car.

I'm figuring the different part numbers are b/c of the change in racks, but I'm not sure.

    Thanks

Thanks Mike, I do plan on getting the later rack at some point. But for now, I'm just looking at doing bushings.

So all 84s used the TRW rack. Is 10/84 when they switched to building 85s? There has to be a reason Energy Susp. differentiates their bushings at that date.

    Thanks again

Ok, I just checked. I do already have the later rack on my 84. The build date is 11/83. So do I order the bushings for the later SVOs or the earlier ones?

Anyone ordered energy suspension bushings on an 84 SVO w/a later rack?

The bushing size is not determined by the rack, but by the size of the mounting bosses in the front subframe of your SVO. 84 SVO's had the large, early Fox Mustang steering rack bushings. 85-86's used the later smaller bushings.

My 84, built 11/83 also, uses the early large bushings.

Order the ones for the pre 10/84 cars for your SVO and you will be just fine!
