  • spec stage 3 worn after 600 miles? kinda long

Well I just pulled my transmission off my car because I am putting in the 5.0 t-5 with a machined down input shaft in stead of the stock one so I decided to pull the clutch out too to inspect it while I was at it. It looks like the clutch disc is worn a lot. There is less than a 1/16 of an of material left before it will be on the rivets on both sides. I don't remember how much was on there before the install but that just doesn't seem right to me.

I did only let the clutch break in for 100-150 mile, drove to the dragstrip once, and autocrossed it a few times for a total of 600 miles on the clutch, but the car at this point is literally stock enginewise (feels like 150rwhp), and it has 4.10 gears which would put even less stress on the clutch. I have the stage 3 since right now I am modifying the engine to hopefully 250-300rwhp, but haven't done so yet. The clutch didn't seem to slip at all while in the car and the flywheel still looks like I just got it machined, the pressure plate looks good too with very few heat marks.

The only thing that I thought was weird about the clutch was that it engaged 1 or 2 inches from the very top of its travel at the pedal no matter how much I tried to adjust the cable to make it engage close to the floor.

Is the clutch supposed to be like this or is there something seriously wrong here. And yes got the stage 3 spec new and had the flywheel machined. I figured I would ask you guys for input before I try to contact spec.

I have a spec one and it is hard to use. hope it gets broke in soon. hope it doesn't wear out right after it wears in. the spec I is rated at 411 lbs of torque so I dont know why you had to go with a spec 3. wow you are pretty close to me

I put in the stage 3 since I plan modding the car to about 350rwhp sometime next year and wanted something to hold up to it, and its not really driven on the street too much so I figured why not.

I will contact spec and see what they have to say on the thickness

only thing I can think of is if you had the clutch adjuster too tight and it was not engaging the clutch fully and slipping thus causing lots of wear.

Ok, I called spec and the disc thickness new is .310 and should be replaced if it is under .290 and measured mine at .306 so my disc is good yet. I guess I don't remember it being that thin putting it in lol.

On a side note I would like to adjust it where it engages close to the floor, will the double adjustable cable with firewall adjuster let me do that, right now I only have a single adjustable cable and it is backed all the way to the end and the clutch engages way at the top of its travel.
