  • door locks..

Ok, so here's the thing.. my passenger door will not pop the lock nor will the key turn it. I know it's the door lock motor seized. It worked before, but once in a while it would take a minute and slowly raise the knob.

as it is right now, the door is shut, locked, and cannot be unlocked and opened. the key will not turn and I tried pulling the knob up with some needle nose and it pulled the entire foot long hook out.. so now what do I do?

I cna't get the door panel off with the door shut and I can't unlock the door with the key and it also won't open from the inside.

    any tips, tricks, ideas??? WTF??

you will have to pull the pass seat to remove the door pannel with out any prob . seems like a lot of work but if you dont pull the seat you run the risk of damaging the pannel . after the pannel is off you should be able to reach inside the door and find the lock and latch mech , locate the rod coming from the lock actuator to the latch mech and snip with a heavy duty set of snip/dykes
moving forward in a backwards rotation

I just replaced my door lock acculater ,same problem couldnt get the door opened so i removed the seat and then took the door panel off and removed the lock motor .Its tight but it will come off.

i was affraid of that.. well, this won't be easy with the subframes and seat posts.

the lock actuators are rivetted in right? I just bought the kit from 50resto that comes with two new actuators, panel things, and two rivets.

thanks for the tips, or any more!

The bracket that holds the actuator is riveted in.
It is a pain to try to get a new actuator in without removing the bracket.
Visit your local Harbor Freight and purchase the large rivet gun to reinstall a new rivet.

I think a friend has one, but if not I'll hit harbor freight down the road. thanks

so you guys drilled out the rivets I'm guessing? is there only one per bracket/side?

yes use a 1/4 drill bit , first take your center punch and knock the steel center out of the aluminum rivet then drill

                          bolt

It's easier if to just use a 1/4 inch bolt and not bother with the rivet gun. This works fine and makes changing the actuator easier if you have to change it later. Tom
