Ken: so the MS will serve as the ignitor on the Ford coil packs?
Correct me if I'm wrong, Ken, regardless of which route he goes (LSx V. Ford coil pack) he will need the bracket, VR, and 36-1 wheel.

Vince: when you use the 36-1 wheel, you will either need to machine your crank pulley to account for the wheel, or space out your other pulleys, so that there is no misalignment.

MS will fire the ford coil packs with my modification. I'll add ignitors to it to allow him to fire 2 coils. MS comes with 1 I just add a second.

He'll still need the wheel, bracket and sensor and to have his pulley machined.

I dont want to make any crazy mods to the MS that someone like me would have an even harder time trying to figure out. If the mods for the ford coil packs is a standard documented upgrade, then no problem. If the GM coils are "more standard" and request less mods, then I'd like to go that route.
Hoping to get on the track soon

It's all documented, but they're all mods. The only thing MS does without modification is fire 1 coil. Even the TFI is a mod to the board. Neither mod is more standard then the other.

MS is a hackers EMS, you have to modify it to fit your needs. You can send if off to DIY to have them do it for you, especially since they already messed up your Idle Air Control circuit. I'm just offering to do it for you, and I can test it on my car to verify that MS is operating properly before sending it off to you.

No offense to all the MegaSquirt experts and contributors, but it sounds like everybody is sending poor ol' vrinner on a wild goose chase, when MegaSquirt II works JUST FINE with stock components. Maybe I missed some of the reasoning for talking about the use of less-documented Extra code, VR sensors, EDIS, coil packs, etc., but if he's trying to make the car run, the easiest thing to do is just follow the directions on the DIYAutoTune site for a stock setup. It's easy. It works. If it doesn't work, it's probably a very simple oversight or mistake on the PCB that can be fixed.

We got the car to run for about 5 seconds. Then we heard this loud grinding and clanking noise. After looking into it, the timing belt had slipped and then the cap and roter were all scratched up on the inside (brand new parts).

I purchased a new cap and rotor (Ford OEM parts), installed and I still have the same issue...inconsistent spark from the plug wires. Sometimes it sparks, sometimes it doesn't. Is there a "dwell" setting or something I need to set?

I'd rather just screw the TFI and go with something more simple and because the distro has been known to fail and we had that weird grinding on the inside of the rotor, I'm just moving onto something else that the guy helping me knows. He briefly looked at the TFI setup and said that it all appeared to be right from a quick glance. But he suggested that because my MS was already setup to do spark, to try and get it running that way...we got close until the grinding noise. Now I'm back to the wiered spark issue. I dont know if my distro is toast or not...it seems to be spinning fine, the gear looks good. I've replaced the TFI module as well to make sure that wasn't an issue.

Carbed V-8 may be the next option!
I've never ran anything but Extra code, but I'm an elitist.

We're just responding to Vrinner's desire to do away with the distributer.

V: I found the bracket, bolts, spacers, 36-1 wheel and vr sensor. You'll need to source a pigtail for the sensor. I got mine from this guy:

Looking on EBay, there are a number of auctions for EDIS stuff.

If you still want me to, I can send you the stuff, you can try it out. If it works for you, then just order up the same stuff and send me back the spare.

I have no idea how it works with MS, you'll have to look to Ken or your local contact on how to wire it up and make it work.

Did you send the MS to Ken? Which configuration did you go with, EDIS or LSx?

By the way, Pyropete is PBT turbo and performance on evilbay.

                    Bob,

He's sending the MS to me. We're not doing EDIS or LSx, we're doing it just like I have mine, MS firing the coil pack directly. This gives me the ability to test the system out on my car before sending it to him.

I'm going to send him one of my spare VR sensor pigtails. I'll send him the tail and sensor along with a coil pack and pig-tail. It's easy for me to source these parts and to test them before he ever gets them.

My desire is to get rid of the mechanical stuff that seems to be causing me problems. Even my local MS expert friend of mine couldn't get a consistent spark and after looking at the thrashed cap and rotor, I think that this can only help.

Plus like Ken said, he's going to test the whole setup prior to shipping so we should be good to go.

Bob...if you could send me your stuff so I can speed up this process, that would be great. I'll start looking on EVIL bay but I really want to get Pyropete's stuff as thats what you guys have been using with success.

Ken...I shipped of the MS to you yesterday.

Pyropete sells his stuff on eBay. He's the only one making a bolt-in kit for the 2.3's that I know of.

I'll let you know when it shows up. I'll hit the junk yard this weekend to get your VR sensor, VR pigtail, coil pack and coil pack pigtail for you.

                              Purchased!

Bob...based on what I know...I dont think I will need any of your stuff. Evil bay says I should get it within 5-6 business days.

                              Thanks!
