  • 85/86 headlight and computer harness question

I'm finaly putting my 85 project back together. When I bought, many parts were missing, it was a rolling chassis minus the nose. I found a used nose but I can't tell what year it is because it didnt come with the head lights. My car is an early 85 so it should have the recessed headlights rather than the flush areo headlights. If by chance the nose I bought came off a 85.5 or 86 (flush areo headlights) can I use the recessed headlights on it or do I need to find the correct year nose?

Are the 85 and 86 computer wire harnesses interchangable?

the head lights are different from the recessed and flush, not interchangeable.

You can use the recessed headlights on the nose. The noses are all the same. I am unsure about the headlight harness, people have swapped a recessed lights for the aero lights, my guess is the front light harness will have a different connection for the recessed lights compared with the areo ones.

The headlight connectors on the harness is a little different because of the the differences between the sealed beams and flush headlights. The nose is the same, but the header panel is slightly different due to the mounting holes for the headlight adjuster brackets for the flush headlights, but the sealed beam lights will bolt right up.

I "believe" the computer harness is the same, since people yank the PE computers and put them in their 84-early 85 cars without any re-pinning.

I made an adapter to use the aero headlights without changing any of the harness on the headlights.

The 85.5 86 harness is different from the 84-85 ones. Most of the sensors are different and have different plugs. You can use the 85.5-86 on the earlier cars but you have to change the sensors or plugs.

The wire for the fuel pump that plugs in under the drivers side kick panel that goes all the way across the dash has one less wire and will not plug up either. You will have to change some wires around there too.
