8.8 for the svo

I found an 8.8 with 4.10s out of a fox. will replacement svo axles fit in there and the brakes bolt up? my axles are bad along with the bearings and my gears whine alittle too...

what you need is a 8.8 from a 87-88 thunderbird .it already has the provisions for the rear disc brakes , its an easy swap if you have the correct rear end , im not sure if a standard 8.8 from a fox will accomidate the rear disc without some serious modifications to it, but the t-bird rear end is a direct swap of parts, such as axels ,dust shields ,calipers ,brake lines

get a t-bird rear and dont swet it , i had never taken a rear end apart until i did my 8.8 conversion in my 84svo , and now that i know what im doing i could do the swap in about 5-6 hours start to finish and be driving it

Would the diff out of a 88 Cougar XR7 be the same? I found one local for $100 but its discription states "drum to drum".

Any mustang 8.8/tbird will swap out just fine regardless of the rear brakes. Just swap the brakes from your rear end to the 8.8 rear end and drive away. You can get replacement SVO length axles from Moser (with studs) for around $250.

Not sure about 8.8s out of other platforms though. There are differences.

That cougar (it's the same as a tbird) should be fine but measure to be certain. Ignore axle lengths and check housing length and mounting points.

same rear end , it has provisions for the rear disc and is the stronger 8.8 not the 7.5




for all to see , it is easier , faster and takes no modifications to bolt in the 8.8 from a 87-88 tc into the svo , i am not sure about the drum brake 8.8 , i dont know if it has the mounts for the rear disc brakes but if you have an early slapper bar rear end and you do the swap i would suggest doing the quad shock swap

The drum brake rear does not have the brackets to mount the calipers. The 7.5 rear that you are taking out has all the brackets that you need. Just unbolt everything from the 7.5 and bolt it to the 8.8 . Any Mustang 8.8 from '86 to '93 will fit.

i dont remember the stuff being able to unbolt but it was almost a year ago

I bought a new 8.8 and everything from the 7.5 bolted right on.

The bracket that the caliper bracket and dust shield mounts to is bolted onto the end of the axle tube in the same fashion as the drum brake backing plate.

The only potential "gotcha" is if you have an 84 with slapper bars instead of quad shocks.
