  • Axle Help

I tried the search feature, but it really did not tell me what I needed to know.

Has anyone used the "Alloy USA" axles? I was going to order a set from Summit for the 86. However, I wanted to get a little feedback before doing so. Summit has them listed for 8.8 rear, 5 lug, 28 spline. My car has the stock 7.5 rear.

Is there any other axle or replacement axle from other vehicles that you would recommend?

As always, thanks for the help,
    Brian

Do a search using the word "Moser".
They are a popular replacement in many SVO's.

5-lug/28-spline 7.5 vs 8.8 axles, there is no difference they are interchangeable. Now, since SVO's did not come with 8.8 diffs they may be the wrong length. The only way to be sure is to verify the length of the axle is correct. I am sure you can find a length listing somewhere on this forum, since I can't remember it off the top of my head or you can just follow Pat's recommendation and call Moser. Good luck.

Not for an SVO. The SVO axles are 1.25" longer per side than the Ranger axles.
The Ranger axles are used to maintain the same track width on a 79-93 Mustang 5 lug conversion.

I recommend Moser axles. ~$250 for the pair, lugs included. They are about 30% stronger than stock. If you call them and tell them they are for the SVO they will hook you up with exactly what you need.

Cool box. I like the contents even more. However, they should work on there slogan "The leader in hi-performance rear end components" leaves a little to be desired" (lol)!!

Thanks again fro the help. I will let ya know how it goes with them today.

I ordered Moser axles today (7.5", 28 SPLINE, 5x4.5, 30.5"). They were knowledgeable and curteous. They also let me know the "Alloy USA" axles are made in India.

$252 for axles with wheel studs. $24 shipping to Jax. FL. (2) day turn around and (3) days to ship. Should have them next Thursday.

I hope to install next Saturday. That will complete the entire rearend rebuild, with 4.10 gears (which have already been installed).

Thanks a bunch for the help,
                  Brian

Thanks Mike, I appreciate all of the info received.

As I have said in previous posts, I am new to the SVO. This forum has been a great source of info and help in the (2) months I have owned this car.

                    Thanks,
                    Brian
