  • Aluminum flywheel - Ye or Ne

The Dog bone transmission is being shipped from G-Force. I need a new clutch (26 spline) and fly wheel. My stocker is fine. I mean I turned it last time I took it out and it’s nice and clean, but was thinking about Aluminum though. Nows the time if I’m going to do it.

Whatcha think? Any opinions? Who has them? Let’s hear from ya.
    Where to buy from?

This is for open track and on road fun.

I may have it in with the D9 before the Reunion!!!

Henson, I'd have to find the receipt and I'm just about to run out the door. It is the standard part for the 84, straight from the catalogue. Also running the Spec Stage II clutch which is the shiznitt!!

Love to hear how you like that transmission!! I've been looking at it for a while, just need the swag to swing it.

A lightweight flywheel will be an advantage. Go for it.

Ye and dont forget the alum driveshaft while you're at it. Reducing weight in the driveline reduces how % of hp is lost to the wheels.

A little side track here, sorry, do/did you use hardened washers with the Al flywheel?

I got a Spec aluminum flywheel & a stage 3+ clutch & pressue plate set up. Haven't used it yet, but I've heard it works well. Torque Capacity is 525 ft lbs.

                    They are a SVOCA vendor.

Use ARP bolts at the flywheel. High performance definately justifies the need. I think chalky has used the ARP bolts.

Iirc the aluminum ones are ~11.5 Lbs and there are lightened iron/steel ones that are less than 9 Lbs. It's been a very long time but I think the [unmachined] stock ones are ~20-22 Lbs (I've got one here somewhere I could put on a scale but it's been cut a couple times).
That sounds about right. I'm not very comfy with using an original stock flywheel that has been lightened to 9# though. If HKS made a version of their steel flywheel for a 2.3 I may consider it, but they don't.

Henson, for your intended application that aluminum flywheel is a good choice.

I like the aluminum flywheel. I also use the SPEC clutch. The stage II is a good one if you have a driver and sit in traffic, the stage III will cause you to develope some muscles. I like it better on the track. If I remember right the cover bolts were different on the aluminum flywheel. Be sure you have the right ones before you install the clutch, you can'nt find them on the weekend.

                              So for Spec:

                              Flywheel # SF32A,… $379.00 Unknown weight

                              Clutch stage 2, #SF722: Torque 315… $319.00
                              Clutch stage 2+, #SF723H: Torque 380… 380 $371.00
                              Clutch stage 2, #SF723: Torque 425… $319.00

                              What’s your torque guess on a 2.5L ~ 400horse?

I’m at 300hp now till the t34, injectors and watercooler.
