  • exhaust....

I was finally able to get under the car and install this duel chrome tip Walker peice. Man, the exhaust was restrictive.. they just threw some muffler on there and welded it. the pipe went from 2.5 inch all the way down to 1.5 inch at the muffler.. that's crazy. I replaced it with an OEM type muffler that has larger inlet and outlet so I'm sure the care will love it.

    the tips look good too!!

on a side note..I just drove it to get something to eat and hammered it and it got away from me. really impressed with the power it has. It needs shocks..badly! soon soon...

Walker makes a nice tailpipe... for you OEM types... Had one for a long time. In fact, I think Steve Gomez is still using it on his car!
Anyway... You think that makes a difference? Now step up to a 3" exhaust! LOL
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!

oh yeah I know turbo'd engines love free flowing exhaust. I did that on my diesel and it gave me mileage plus quicker spool up. I'm looking at a 3" down pipe right now..wondering if it's direct bolt on or will I have to adapt it...we'll see.

so dumb question.. where is the cat? I see a flat peice inline after the down pipe is this a resonator or the cat?? As I mentioned I'm looking at a 3" down pipe and wondering if this thing whatever it is will interfere or I'll have to remove it. I still need to pass inspection.

Sounds like you found your cat, based on your description. Your DP will connect from your turbo outlet elbow to just before your muffler inlet pipe. If you need to run a cat you would have it placed close to the position your stock cat is in relationship to the turbo outlet. I believe one of the most popular and affordable cats are from Random Technologies. I think Mike Fleming has one on his beast.

Depending on your inspection method you could also just weld/band clamp on a heat shield over the DP to make it look like a cat. When they used to check for cats here they would simply look at angled mirror on the floor at the emissions station. As long as they saw a heat shield, they were happy.

can't do that here, they test for emissions regardless and don't even look underneath. Per my inspection a few weeks ago he said it shows that the cat is going out anyways.

So the large flat resonator looking thing is in fact the cat?? It's like a 12"x12" or somethign like that??

Yup, that is the catalytic converter. Ford (and others) used some fairly large units up until the mid-80s. I recall pulling a fairly large one out of my old 81 Mustang years ago. Modern converters are hardly larger than the exhaust pipes themselves in many cases!

well, had to get rid of the cat today. I took it in to get the walker rear section welded as well as the muffler I had installed. turns out my cat was cracked in 5 places and leaking that's why my girlfriend could smell exhaust in the cab and I couldn't. good sniffer.

the cat when it was removed the insides came out in peices. the honeycomb inside is all broken up and stuff so it was toast. the guy made me an "S" section to take it's place and the car isn't really that much louder at all, but it does driver differently.

the only bad thing is a peice of the honey comb in the cat has gotten into the muffler and it rattles every now and then outside the car. Eventually it will break and find it's way out though.

I also found this at summit...and if I had seen it sooner I could have spent the same amount of money on this that I did today having the work done...
