  • Oil Pan Removal

Thanks to everyone for the previous help.

For anyone following my posts, I have successfully taken out my distributor and aux shaft because of broken teeth on both sets of gears. Next is the oil pan for a good cleaning.

Are these the correct steps for dropping the oil pan. Am I missing anything?

    1. Remove the motor-mount nuts and raise the motor - support it under the crank pulley with a stand and a block of wood.

    2. Disconnect the strg. shaft from the rack and pinion at the "rag" joint and tap it upward and out of the way. (??)

    3. Take all 8 bolts out that attach the front crossmember to the frame.

    4. Remove the four bolts holding the anti-sway bar brkts to the frame and let the bar hang.

    5. Remove the starter.

    9. Drop the pan.

    Thanks

I would try to help, but I have never taken the oil pan off with the engine in the car

this is one of those instances where I don't know what I am talking about, so I just don't say nuthin....

Well......I guess I will just do it based on the steps above. I'm planning on tackling this in 2 weeks, so if anyone has any additional thoughts between now and then let me know.

        Wish me luck.....

          Oil Pan

The oil pan is off.....what a pain in the a**. The job took 3 hours as a rookie, but definitely could be done in a lot less time.

Follow the steps I have listed above and the oil pan will come right out.

Now I have to figure how to put everything back together after a thorough cleaning.
