  • fuel level sender..

found nothing pertaining to this on here......dumb question, but why is the level sender on the SVO's different from other year stangs? The tanks are the same, the fuel pump senders are basically the same, yet level senders say for every year except SVO??

what's the difference in them?? why can't I use a brand new level sender for EFI cars in my SVO to replace an old rusty one?

is this part number correct for it?

        E3ZZ-9275-C , if so that shows as a 83-86 5.0L Fuel Injection

if that's the case then it's still being sold as new, per that part number.

I was looking through a Mustangs Unlimited catalog earlier and found that listing for 83-86 5.0 EFI, so according to that part number it will work with SVO's just fine.. cool !!!

I've got to confirm the fact that the 87-93 stang's sender, will make the fuel gauge read backwards. Askme how I know.. lol

found this old thread I was asking about.. funny thing, I purchased a level sender for another mustang from mustangs unlimited for an 88GT and the gauge reads backwards now.. so THIS one must be for the early models including SVO's..damnit..now I have to buy yet another one and keep this one for my SVO.

Was doing some searching and came across some info, but still need some more info. Hence the reason for the resurrection of this thread.

What brand (other than Ford) have folks purchased for their replacement fuel level sender and/or fuel pump unit?? I have found various brand replacements and figured I would gather opinions. When I throw in my 255lph pump later this winter (thanx Santa!!) I would replace the items, besides the point that my fuel gauge hasn't been working properly for the past 5-10 years.

they don't have a brand name on them, but I have two sitting right here for early model and late model. they look the same except one has a light colored float and the other has a dark colored float. first one I got from mustangs unlimited, but was the wrong one. the second one and correct one I got at 50resto.

Thanx for the info, I will check into 50resto. So far my search has been interesting, many brands to choose from including: Spectra Premium, Carter, Dorman and Airtex so far.

One of the crazy things I found so far is that the Spectra brand has either a fuel pump hanger unit or a fully loaded fuel pump hanger assembly with a pump and sock. The fully loaded assembly is only $3 more than the hanger only?!? Heck, I could buy the assembly and sell off the stock replacement pump & sock at that rate. What a screwy world we live in.

Both O'Reilly and Autozone list senders for an 85 SVO... Are these incorrect? I'm replacing mine hopefully this weekend.
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!

So, can you swap the wires and make them read correctly?

The resistance values in the wiper (or reostat if you will) are different as well, so it really is a non-player
