  • leather seat help

I have been looking at getting another 86' and the most common thing between them all is that the leather seats are ripped are almost completely shot. I saw the ad for E&G Classics and didn't know if anyone else has any oppinions of them (good or bad). I've also considered a possibly cheaper option and replacing the fronts all together with recaros, or something compairable. I'm not sure what I should do with back seats though. Plus how good or bad of an idea would a 91 lx cloth interior be?(would it look to plain and basic?) Let me know any of your opinions or past experiences! Thanks!

I'm sure you know about the deal the club offers to its members for on the covers?

To my knowledge, I know of no one that has complained about the quality of the E&G kit. It is a little bit of trouble to install, but it is worth the extra effort.

I have seen a couple of these kits installed on cars, and they look awesome.

The SVO seats are much nicer than the 93's in my opinion.
Also the material is not going to match the carpet, and doors.

While pulling them out, and going with recaros is always a option, the SVO seats are nice, and I believe you could get the E&G Kit cheaper than you could get a good set of recaros.

I haven't gotten my E&G kit yet, but it is "in the works"
, Probably a purchase I'll make with my tax return next year.

Thanks for the advice. I know that almost $700 is alot, but for the front and back it did seem like quite a good deal. Also, thanks for the carpet and door panel statement, I hadn't considered that. Do you know how hard it may be to install? I've put carpet in cars, but never redone seats, especially leather.
      Thanks

        E&G leather

I have worked in the automotive aftermarket industry for 15 years and can tell you that E&G Classics is the LEADER in the aftermarket leather kits. These kits are designed for use by the automotive franchise dealerships to convert lower line vehicles that in cases can not be ordered with leather. Example: Toyota Corolla CE can have leather installed and sell for 1000's less than a DX with factory leather and the dealer makes more $$$$ .....as far as the SVO leather kit, I have seen many installed and they look absolutely just like the original covers. You WILL NOT be disappointed!

I would recomend that the covers be installed by a professional installation shop, a certain amount of fill is necessary to compensate for the compaction of the factory foam over the years. After install....all leather kits will look loose when first installed but over a couple weeks the heat will shrink to make them fit perfectly.

        On a scale of 1-10, the E&G kits will be a 10+++++

I have a set in my green 85. I think Gary summed it up quite nicely. On a scale of 1 to 10.....10+ You won't be disappointed with the quality and fit.

I put a set out of a 79 Pace Car in my white 85 recently. I have to say...I really like these seats. If you supply the material - a typical upholstry shop will charge $250-300 to recover them from scratch.

I'm not sure what I should do with back seats though. Plus how good or bad of an idea would a 91 lx cloth interior be?(would it look to plain and basic?)
Any back seat assembly will work (FOX-wise)....as long as you stay with a Hatchback style....and they're usually very cheap.

91LX - like from a 4cyl car? Just too plain jane....and very uncomforable when you compare them to what else is out there. At least find a GT style seat so ya get some lumbar and lower thigh support. Heck, you could even use a 94 up Front seats.....something I've seen a many of FOX mustangers option for...

Thanks for the advise and the high confidence in the reproduction leather. I will probably end up opting for a set here in the next few months, unless some deal just drops out of the sky.

Just so you know not all rear seats will change/mount from year to year. I tried installing a '92 rear seat into my '88LX a couple years ago and the mounting was different. The '92 rear seat would not mount into the '88. I'm not sure what year Ford changed these but they did. Just FYI.
