What does anyone know about the Motorsport A-237 roller camshaft? On the Original Merkur Encylopedia page, they say it is not good for the street and can increase turbo lag. Is there any other options for a roller cam? Can anyone give me advice on a cam with added performance over stock, but not with the drivability issues brought on with a radical cam(idle, working with stock computer controls, etc.). Again I'm looking for mild to good improvement over stock.

    Thank you

Quite a few of the members of this club run the A-237. I have used it for several years with no problems. It runs good on the street and 13.41@ 103 in the quarter.

You might want to invest in an aftermarket adjustable cam pulley to dial it in to your motor. Paul at SVPU has some nice ones that are very light.

I run mine at 4 degrees retarded.

      A-237

Thanks for your reply Ty. It's good to hear that it performs well for you. Are there any drivability issues related to this cam? Will it just give better performance over stock? What differences have you noticed between this cam and a stock cam. I'm just searching for something that provides a good all around fit (and something I don't have to change in 6 months).

      I appreciate your reply!

Ohhh and what would a web-board that is 2.3T related do without the great cam debate..?

in an case, yeah i one of the guys that will say that the motorsport roller does one hell of a job ( for me )...the cam runs just fine, the idel is not at all rumpety - rump as some would describe and its pretty sedate.

No, its not eally a "turbo" cam per say....but it sure as hell helped me hit 12.80's at 107+ mph.....thats at FULL weight ( 3200+ lb's ) and FULL suspension ( im lazy )

There are some very good results ( from what " i hear " ) from the ranger roller cam...and i would have to admit that it is a pretty economical route to take as far as roller cams are concerned.

But....when it comes down to it, basically its up to you to decide whats best for what you want.

I do not know what would happen if you had to pass an emmission's check with this cam but I have NO drive ability problems at all. Where the stock cam or the Ranger cam falls off around 5200 mine pulls all the way to the rev limiter.

If you are really worried about the drive ability of the cam, you might be better off getting an adjustable cam pulley and retarding your stock cam and see what happens. You can use the pulley on the A-237 also so you have not wasted any money...

I am also running the A-237 cam and love it! There is a note to my idle that says it has a cam but nothing extreme. Mine is mostly street driven with a track event or autocross thrown in on a regular basis and I have no problems at all with it. It may not be listed as a Turbo cam but I think it works quite well for what I want out of it....

I passed emissions with an A-237. It was set straight up. The funny thing is that i did not even know it was in the car! Passed in an 85 TC.

I keep hearing that the best spot for it is at 2-4 degrees advanced. They say that you lose nothing on the bottom top end and pick up alot through the bottom. I have my 87 TC at 2R and I am going to try it at 2-4A soon.

                    cam debate added.

Now that my car is up on casters for the winter I wanted to ask this question. I too am running the A237 cam but now I know why I was having issues. Exaust leaks. Well if you set the cam right it should have 14 of vacume at 1000 rpm right. this is regardless of cam choice and set up right? With that said on my car it is about 8 retarded(so am i). Everything else is set right as far as timing goes. This may have been because of my exaust leaks on the header. Any comments.

BTW the A237 was not too rough. As paul said it has a hint of cam.

Exhaust leak: going into the muffler.

Yes, I had problems with the idle all over the place and breaking up under boost. I put on a new factory exhaust and all the problems cleared up. I have not tried it under boost for a mile long stretch yet but all my problems have gone away.

I have been considering this cam also, can you get one through Ford? I have the Ranger cam now and at first was dissapointed with it because the powerband felt the same as the stock cam. (taking others advice without researching) the cam specs the lift for the Ranger cam lower that the stock cam, but after I retarded the cam 4deg top end power picked up nicely. How does the A237 compare to say the Engle 55 as far a performance is concerned. With the exception of slider and roller differences aside. With the A237 110 centerline seems like it would be choppy at idle.

Is the above true? Does anyone else think that the Ranger roller is equal or worse than stock? Also, is the Ranger roller still available new? I am trying to decide on what cam to get I DO want something that will give me more broad range power (street driven more than race) without losing any bottom end. Thanks

i am running the A237 cam and i love it. there is a bit of cam sound but not all that much. the cam loves RPM's and so do i. my car is a also a daily driver (when it is running) and it is a fair cam on the street but it is a good overall cam.

                            Specs:

                            Intake: 420''
                            exhaust: 420''
intake duration 274 deg @.006'' cam timing
                            exhaust duration 282 deg @ .006''

i think that is right correct me if i am wrong

Bravo unless you need a cam because your stock one wore out I wouldn't go with a "Ranger" cam. I had one and wasn't impressed by the performance. I put in the A237 and it woke up the motor.
