  • Munched up compressor wheel

Well even though in my other post I said it was fixed , I was wrong. It did run better but it still had a hrd starting issue so I decided to clean teh VAM and hose. Well When I took the hose off of the turbo I noticed the compressor wheel was chewed up . I guess something got in there. My wire on my hose looks fine. I do see some small marks in the walls of the turbo inlet like something was banged around in there. Oh well time to fix it.

    ouch.
it looks like it might have gone past the turbo? possibly causing low compression and therfore starting issues??

I was just looking at everything and maybe found something. On the inside of the airbox it looks like there used to be a washer where the stud goes through. I was wondering if someone could take a look at theirs and let me know. I'm not sure what you call them but the second set of blades on the compressor wheel have absolutely no marks on them, wierd. Mike are you saying the K&N is no good I have the stock replacement style.I bought this turbo years ago from Turbo City. Called them today to find out the specs. All this time I had a T3/T4 hybrid and didn't even know it.

        svoman2300,

There is supposed to be a washer with rubber attached that goes under the wing nut. It helps to seal dust out.

I have the washer on the top of the airbox cover but on the inside of the cover there appears to be an outline of a washer around the hole for the stud.

I got to thinking last night. I originally got sidetracked from my SVO project 13 years ago when after spending a year and a bunch of money the original T3/T4 turbo had a similar problem. After only 900 miles the nut on the compressor wheel had spun off and the wheel disenegrated. Now I was wondering if something in the airbox or VAM fell apart and caused both problems.
