  • Spearco Intercoolers

In short, they don't fit very well.

Personally I had to modify the one of the metal tubes and one of the mounting brackets, source my own hose cause one of the hump hoses wes too short, use my own hose clamps cause half of the ones included don't fit, and lastly, move the charcoal box.

I bought my spearco prior to the sale to Turbonetics and had none of these problems...everything fit perfectly! You are the 2nd person I have heard a complaint such as this from and it seems that Turbonetics along with raising the price has changed some things for the worse in these kits...one important thing being that hose. It appears that things went downhill after Turbonetics took over, have you tried contacting them regarding the issues/downfalls? I don't know why they would change a product that didn't need change but they did. The other problem that I have seen is that multi-colored hoses were sent with the kit making the underhood less than attractive....

Does anyone ( unless spending millions or Reiger being you last name ) have anything good to say about Turbonetics..?

I talked to Tiny Avenger about it (cause that's who I bought it thru) and he relayed to Turbonetics the problems I had which were consistent with problems found by other purchasers. As far as returning the kit for one made right, I figured to odds of getting a good fitting one were slim to none (based on other people having similar problems to mine), so I decided to put up with the one I have.

I will go ahead and be the third person to complain about the spearco intercooler. I had the exact same problems as lonchair, not to mention having to wait two months for mine!!

I would also like to vent about the instructions. The intercooler kit came with poorly photocopied pictures and illustrations that were referenced in the text. Made installing the lower radiator hose/tube very difficult as I had to do it twice to get a good fit.

But it does perform well, I like it a lot now that it is installed.

As an update to this, on my recent move to Texas, I encountered a large pile af asphalt in the middle of the hiway in StLouis. I hit it. There was noplace for me to go to avoid it on this off ranmp (one lane, canyon type of thing with no shoulders). Well the only damage to my car was the air scoop on the Spearco.

Instead of bending it back into shape and rewelding it, I'm making a new scoop out of rubber sheet material. After my accident, this is one mod I would suggest any one who drives on unfamilure or crappy roads to make.

Worse than that mate, i would sugegst the following:

If your car is lowered with the scoop you will more than likely end up slamming the IC into your crank pulley.

I would suggest that 1) a small verticle bar be welded on the back of the IC to protect the fins from the pulley.

Ohhhh and keep a stock of crank pullies

Yea, I had already taken your experiances into account and beefed up my brackets with gusits(sp) so the IC wouldn't get pushed backwards.
