  • '05 Wheel Update

I went by a Ford dealer where a friend works and looked at an '05 Bullitt wheel (it is listed as a Mach wheel, even though there is no '05 Mach). I laid it face down and put a straight edge across the wheel, on top of the lip. I measured down to the mounting face and it was 6.5 in. I then measured a SN95 Bullitt wheel, 5.75 in., so the new wheel will sit 3/4 in. more to the inside compared to a 17x8 SN95 wheel. Clearing the front brakes may be another issue along with the use of a center cap.

I have one 05 GT wheel without a tire mounted so I can experiment with tire sizes on my 86 SVO. The rear looks real good, might have to massage some interior sheetmetal to allow 255/45 install. I already have the fender lips rolled so that side is not a problem. The front is real close to the strut, the fender lip looks close also, I think 225 or 235/45 would be max up front.
FYI- Ford specifications list one wheel for the GT, a 17 x 8 with a 45mm offset.

You should not have any problems with the inner fender, a 255 tire will fit under a fox rear easily, with the right offset wheel. A 255 on a SN95 17x8 wheel with a SN95 axle fits under the rear with minimal fender lip mods, a 245 should not need any. Using an 05' 17x8 wheel in the rear should move the tire .75 in. inward, which is about the same as the longer SVO axle compared to the SN95 axle.

The front is a different issue, did the 05' wheel fit over the hub? The strut may be a problem. I think the way to go if someone wanted Bullitt wheels would be to use SN95 wheels in the front (with modified rotors) and 05' Bullitt wheels on the rear. The tracks would be very close.

In the Ford parts computer there were 4-5 05' Gt wheels shown (Bullitt, standard GT, chrome convertable + others) and 2-3 V6 wheels shown.

I have the split 5 spoke (4R3Z-1007-JA) When I mentioned that there was only one GT wheel, I misspoke, I meant there is only one specification. The wheel that I have bolts up no problem, and like I mentioned the strut might be a problem with wider tires. The outside looks close also, the wheel is kind of beefy it measures a shade over 9 inches outside edge to inside edge. I'll get some pics posted as soon as I can.

I think it might work in the front, I run a 255/40/17 on Bullitt wheels on my 90 LX, which has the smaller wheel openings. I think it might work with the 05' wheels with thin spacers if the tire is too close to the strut.

I have an 86 svo and I was wondering if I could fit the new 2005 16" mustang wheels on my svo. They have P215/65R16 tires on them. Would I be able to fit these on my svo without any modifications? Thanks in advance!

yea- - but that tire size is tall, not much 'fun' for driving.

What size tires do you suggest I should go with. Would a 215/50/16 work with these wheels.

They are 16x7 (same as stock) so you can go with 225-50-16 or 245-45-16.

Does anyone have a picture of a 245 45 16 tire on the stock SVO rim?

I can take one later if no one else has a picture.
