Hello new 86 owner here. I am looking for the side skinny trim that goes along the fender and doors. Not the rocker trim. It doesn't have to be the exact oem material just a nice replacement. Thanks, Luke

I've seen several people recommend this one: https://repaintsupply.com/moldings/b...ing-p2536.html
Not original, but close enough from 10 feet.

Dragging this up from the dead, since 'Side Molding' is the subject. I have three pieces of the stuff that looks a lot like the right profile. Close enough, anyway, and all 3 pieces mostly match, and are a dark charcoal or faded black, so that'll work, too. All 3 are right at 52" in length, but that's about 2" short for the doors. Is that right? I mean, I can center it on the doors and make it look about right, if that's the way it was, but I don't remember.
I'm thinking I can take the third piece and cut it for the fenders and quarters. That 52" is plenty long for that. Thanks.Gene Beaird,

Odd that the forum won't let me enter the color of the car, or even add it to a new post here.
ETA: Fixed! Apparently an 'N' with a tilde on top followed by an 'O' is code for 'cut all the remaining text in the field'. Maybe that's why the paint tech entered 'Jalapena Red' in the paint label when I had mine mixed? :-/Last edited by gbeaird; 11-03-2023, 03:54 PM.Gene Beaird,

The verdict is that what we have is a big ol' fat No! In the process of finding replacements now. The R&E Paint Supply link above won't let me fill out an order, so I guess I'll have to go elsewhere.Gene Beaird,

I've used this style a few times on SVOs. I have it on my Grabber Orange car. Comes in a roll to easily do the entire car. https://repaintsupply.com/cow-33-322...-side-molding/ I see it's out of stock. Might want to call them and see when they'll get more. I've spoken to them a few times over the years. They are VERY helpful.

Mike,
The 5/8" fits? That's great news, as the other roll I ordered was 9/16" wide. I prefer at least factory widths, so my call Repaint Supply to see if they can help.
I do have one side, but don't know which side I have. I may also verify what side I have and PM you later. Thank you.
ETA: Just Called Repaint Supply, and the lady I spoke with said that if they are out of stock on a molding product, they won't be replacing it. I guess they're going to sell down the side moldings and quit selling it altogether. So if you're THINKING of getting something from them, do it NOW.
But the side molding they sell is Cowles, and they have a web site and web store: https://cowlesproducts.com/body-mold...5662?offset=60
So all's not lost.Last edited by gbeaird; 11-06-2023, 02:22 PM.Gene Beaird,

Well, that's a bummer. But like you said, get it straight from the manufacturer. I think I got the Matte finish instead of the gloss. https://cowlesproducts.com/body-mold...Kit-p216962143
Yep, I think the 5/8 fits. I would need to check the car.PETRO EXPRESS=CITGO=BOYCOTT / Illinois - Taxation w/o Representation!

That's okay, Mike, I've ordered everything from 1/2" -> 5/8", from two different manufacturers/vendors, so I'll soon find out. :-)
Had a look at what I had in inventory, and I have three, what looks like take-off OEM molding and one length of 1/2" trapezoidal molding, but all 4 pieces are 52", and proper fit is right at 53". So I was mistaken that I had one side. We'll see what looks best when all these parts hit the door.
And man, I was really tempted to order that Cowles carbon fiber molding. I'm a sucker for CF!! ;-)
