  • Helmets for the Reunion

Just a heads up, looking through all of the paperwork you will definitely have to have a SA2010 helmet for the Barbers driving events.

Ty, you sure about that SA2010 requirement?? All the SCOA literature references Snell SA2005 (SA05) only, which is what all the sanctioning bodies still allow. I know my last track day this past June still allowed SA2005. Of course, this is the last year for the SA2005 to be 'legally' used, as all sanctioning bodies have a 10 year limit on helmets from my experience.

I have a feeling Barber may have a limited supply of helmets to rent at the track, but can't say for sure. I am sure a quick email to Jay or Lee at the SCOA would help answer that question.

Your right Ted. It states 2005 or newer.

Can I still use my Snell M2005 helmet for the autocross?

Good question Perry. I am not sure what set of rules/regulations we are following for the auto-x portion of the event, but will send Jay a note to confirm if an M helmet can be used.

Well, that was quicker than expected for an answer. Yes Perry, you can use your M2005 helmet for the auto-x!

The auto-x is going to be run by the local SCCA group and will be following the normal SCCA requirements for helmets, which states that you need either an SA (Special Application) or M (Motorcycle) rated helmet of 2000 or newer certification (i.e.- 2000, 2005, 2010 or 2015). Since the SCCA group is running things, they should have loaner helmets available for the event as well.

Just remember the Saturday HPDE event DOES require an SA2005 or newer helmet, no M rated helmets allowed on the track. This is normal for most all track day/HPDE events that I have attended.
