Ugghh, you keep finding more layers as you peel your SVOnion Eric! Well, the video I posted over in the 'master cylinder' thread shows how the booster is supposed to work and your description above shows a malfunctioning one. Hope you get it wrapped up soon, good luck.

Gotta love doing a brake booster...

First, all those places in your back that feel OK right now, yeah, those are taken care of now.
Then once you finally get that top left bolt out (at 1/16 turn of the bolt at a time)
you always have that one brake line on the Master cylinder that don't want to come off, and as you cringe as you twist with your line wrench, praying it don't strip off.
You twist, wiggle and finagle the booster until it magically pops out, nearly like a child being born!
Then, you get the MAGIC CORNER... that corner where everything anyone has dropped near there in the last 20 years has landed and still rests.
found several bolts, washers, plastic rings etc, (sadly no $100 bills or gold nuggets) ended up cleaning it out with the shop-vac, hitting it with a scruff of sandpaper, and a squirt of paint to prevent any rust.

also squirted a couple coats of paint on the new booster, as it's 'natural finish' before re-installing.

but GOOD NEWS.. I have brakes!!

        Items left::
Brakes need to BLEED badly, but will get that taken care of tomorrow..
headlights seem to be taken care of (need a bit more testing)
gotta make a bracket to mount the dipsitck tube.
wiring is all buttoned up, for now, there's still a few items that need addressing, but that's not happening before reunion, nothing dangerous
Gotta do my under car inspection, and hopefully find nothing too scary.
        change oil, and check fluids,

going to drive the crap out of it Tuesday and Wednesday, and if all goes well, see some friends in Louisville Wednesday, Thursday if it don't go so well.

Turning this thread into my own personal progress thread

anyway, check of the rear-end suspension only found a couple minor issues..

brake connections on both sides need to be tied down, not banging against the shocks...
simple enough to tie these up.

              found my rattle...
Exhaust pipe a bit close to the upper control arm...
              simple to fix...

this one has me a bit worried.. Seems spherical bushings have been installed, which is fine, but looks like the bushing shell has backed out.
This one may need a bit of work, will have to pop it apart and see whats going on.

Hmm, boxed uppers with poly and spherical ends...hope you like snap-oversteer! Not 'scary' so to speak, just something you need to be aware of. You would be better served with a set of stock uppers combined with the axle sphericals, which is what I ran for a while and they tamed the snap-oversteer.

I've not thrown this car into a turn as of yet... (Semi-recent purchase, as you know Ted) but for the exact reason... I've not had a chance to go over it end to end yet.
Will have to keep the boxed uppers, as I don't have a spare set of stock uppers around. We will have to see how time works out tonight if it keeps the poly, or they get dumped for stock rubber.

Since the right-side upper with spherical will need to come out, and probably will yank the other, to make sure the spherical is tight, with lock-tite... that might be a thought... Bet I can pick up a set of rubber at the local auto chain....

Its always a mad scramble at the end, regardless of when you start Dave. Eric, if you can't get a rubber end in there, don't sweat it, just keep it in mind if it does happen you will know why.

OK, Popped the rear-end side of the uppers off. Put the sphericals back together, with some lock-tite this time, they should hold together until I decide to do something else.
The boxed and polly uppers gotta stay. I did find an old set of uppers, but the old stock rubber in them was ROUGH, and I don't have the time to replace it.
I typically enjoy a bit of oversteer anyway

Tomorrow do a quick check on the steering shafts and connections, put the front fender wells in, and test drive the crap out of it.
Then give her a bath, and a bit of a clean-up.

My puppies have a vet appointment at 3, After that, will be heading to Louisville to hang out with some friends there (and bag on their college basketball program for paying recruits) Should see you all Thursday!!
