  • Wiper Motor power connections

My wipers run even when the wiper switch is turned off.

If I put the switch on high speed, they go high speed. When I turn the switch off, they still run at low speed.

They still run even if I disconnect the switch altogether.

It could be the motor not parking itself or something else.

Can someone tell me or check their car and tell me what wires in the motor connector get voltage with the key on, engine off.

By knowing that it would narrow it down to being the motor not parking or not. I assume the motor must get 12v constant on one wire and then voltage on others when its supposed to be running. It uses 12v constant to power the parking of it. If I am getting voltage on other wires with everything off, then its not the motor.....understand? Help

    Thanks,
    Jim

I'll be watching this thread closely, as mine does the exact same thing.. It also come on intermittently on it's own.. I just unplugged the damn thing, since I nver drive the SVO in the rain or when rain is expected near by..

the wiring shouldn't be specific to an SVO as all mustangs in that time had the same switches and motors. I'd check a Haynes or Chilton manual at a parts store. they'll let you look at them without buying..they do here anyways. Autozone will even print out any schematics for you if you ask.

I have a wiring schematic. It just doesnt show what wires would be giving power at any given time.

I would like to think its the parking thing inside the motor, but I hate to go buy a new one and/or try to rip open the motor to inspect it if its not.

I'm bringing back my SVO to life after having not touched it in 15 years. Its amazing what you forget you did and how you falsely remember things from that long ago.

check your ground at the motor at the fire wall. may be rust under the insulater.

Had this happen on my 83. Switch checked out fine. Thought it was the motor and replaced it. Still had the problem. Narrowed it down to a busted intermittent regulator box.

I would say its the wiper intermittent switch too ,its the little black box under the steering colume on the left.

What was the outcome of this problem? Wiper motor? Intermittment govenor? Wiper switch? Inquiring minds would like to know.

+1. The intermittent regulator box is under the dash, left side of the steering column. It's a black box that says "TRW" on it. (At least, it says that on mine.) Turns out the contact switch inside the box would stick, causing the wipers to stay on.

I recently fixed mine. My car was missing the govenor, the wiper motor was bad, and my wiper switch had a broken prong. I found a govenor and wiper switch from a 85 LTD and bought a reman motor and now life is good.

So glad I found this post. I was getting ready to replace the wiper switch until I checked the control box. I removed the circuit board, popped the cover off the relay, sanded the contacts and everything works now. Thanks to all!
