  • Almost finished with my install....now what...

    Hey Guys,

So I am almost ready to fire up my setup, but just wondering where to go from here. I am getting worried my stock computer and injectors (Tbird comp and 35lb jets) are not going to be enough.

Where do I go from here? Bo was telling me about Stinger's new ECU coming out (seems similar to FAST's EZTune system, but with a 3 bar MAP).

    Current combo:

    Stock long block
    Stinger Front Mount IC
    Forced4 CAI with Bosch BPV
Boost Controller (set at 18psi before the IC change)
Stinger 3" downpipe to 3" full exhaust
    Tbird ECU
    35lb injectors
    disconnect Knock
    Stock Turbo
    255lph in tank pump
    T-Rex Inline pump
    Adjustable Fuel Reg
    Autometer Wideband 02

Without changing the combo, assuming everything is running OK with stock ECU, what do you think power levels, ballpark, would be

    Now the new stuff:

    Things already ordered:
    Garrett T3/T4 .63 A/R (Per Bo's recommendation)

Now what should I do before changing the Heads/Cam/Intake
    75lb injectors
    new ECU
    lots of tuning

I am looking for 350-400rwhp out of the stock longblock before I re-build the motor.

once you get fired up, GO DRIVE IT!

    cam?

start with the boost at its lowest setting; there's a real good chance the injectors wont kept up with your existing combo; the la series processors can handle 400hp with a proper bin. stock longblocks can be pushed to 300hp at the crank, after that, $/hp goes up dramatically. reliable 400hp at the wheels on a stock motor is unrealistic.

Not worried about blowing this one up. I am mainly just using it to learn the SVO in's and out's. I have another SVO block that is being hot tanked and machined right now and will be filled with CP pistons and billet rods with a forged crank. But that project wont be ready for a couple of months.

So in the meantime gonna beat on this one, learn the ECU tuning and see how fast I can go

i would suggest the following reading:

ps: you should always be worried about blowing up an engine. blown engines can cause fires. fire bad. and its ALWAYS handy to have a spare motor.

Your current set up still includes stock turbo, stock head, cam, and only 18lbs of boost? No fuel pump change and adj FPR? Ballpark is 230rwhp. I have a thread around here somewhere that details how/where my HP was found. It might be in the Members Only area. You mentioned something in another thread about EEC-IVs at WOT - you were correct. They all act the same way.

As for Stinger-anything. Bleh. He hasnt created anything - just copied the work of others. We dont allow product reviews or promotion of any kind for Shannon's hacked stuff. He's a mooch who kept violating our rules by constantly advertising his wares without permission and never gave one bit of support in a way of a discount to this club's members or donations for the Reunion for his constant use of our forum. MOOCH!

oh bollocks, thought the hybrid turbo was already on the car with a big cam.. had it confused with the other thread about the 1.9 cam.. stocker stuff is right where bud says it is.

                Hey Guys,

All good info. I totally forgot to include I have a 255lph intake pump, a external T-Rex fuel pump and adjustable FPR

Also once i get it back I will be on the dyno, seeing how much boost I can push from the stock turbo. Will be increasing the Fuel Pressure and playing with base timing

Also added the following: Wideband 02 for tuning purposes

And thanks for the headsup about Stinger!

BTW, what is the maximum amount of boost you can push efficiently without to much heatsoak out of the stock turbo with a FMIC?

I did something like 23 or 24lbs ... and I'd suggest the use of a leaf blower across the IC while it's on the dyno.

The shop I use has one of those industrial strength air blowers for that
