  • SVO wing gasket?

Did the factory use anything when they installed the wings on our cars? was there "bedding" or any kind of gasket material to protect the paint where it makes contact?

Not that I am aware of. Just the rope caulk to seal around the holes. I always added a bit more on the bottom to seal it to the hatch.

Never even thought those holes were sealed...I'll have to do mine when I repaint my spoiler / wing. I do recall the backside of the upper wing mount to hatch having some old foam tape type of material that was attached..

I know the wing has lips that :lift" the wing slightly to allow water to flow and not dam up but I was just wondering about protecting the paint where the wing makes contact

When we pulled the wing/spoiler assy off our original hatch, I was surprised at the condition of the paint under them, in spite of the fact that the back tabs on the wing and a couple of the wing screws had been replaced. The deck spoiler had mounting tabs broken out of it, which required reattaching (I used a combination of epoxy and fiberglass cloth for reinforcement), but other than dirty, the hatch paint under it was in decent shape, too.
