  • Another Fog Light issue

On the 86 (for wiring purposes) the wire that leaves the Fog Light switch is T/O Tan/Orange.

I have power on the T/O wire when it leaves the switch. I do NOT have power on the T/O wire in the engine compartment. Does any one know the routing of that particular wire when it leaves the switch.

The wiring schematics from Ford are WRONG. Ford shows a Fog Light relay, which they obviously went cheap and omitted it when they actually built the cars. The T/O wire seems to leave the center console plug and then feeds up into the harness right next to the climate control unit. Then I can see a plug that has a T/O wire that is way up in the dash and then hides itself where it is impossible to see.
I know that the wire comes out of the firewall in a very small bundle (maybe 5 wires) by the A/C accumulator.

I am just trying to isolate and fix where there is an obvious bad connection.

I would consider this particular wire and its access comparable to the damn heater core....

Anyway, any insight could possible bring me back to sanity....

    Thx

    FV

    ***UPDATE***

The T/O wire exits the center console plugs and makes its way to the upper dash area and then comes out again next to the ECU in the passenger side kick panel. At this point it comes out of the main harness with a W/LB (just 2 wires the T/O and W/LB) wire. At this point there is a 2 wire plug that connects these 2 wires and they then proceed up above the ECU and then thru the firewall near the A/C accumulator. They run along the passenger side fender/strut tower and then proceed down to the frame and run underneath the air box assembly.
At this point there is a connection where the T/O wire splits off and goes to each fog light.

In my case the 2 wire plug connection next to the ECU was melted and the connection was sporadic. If you touch it or twist on it, it will work but repeat and it dont work...

I cut the plug off and just butt connected the wires and heatshrinked them. Talk about wasting a day to figure this out...

I posted this mainly for others to use for troubleshooting if you have a similar problem.

The best fix is to install a relay. A good spot is where the T/O wire splits near the air box but that would just be a suggestion and you can run it in many diff locations.

Personally, I left the wiring stock and I am running LED head lights and LED bulbs in the original Marchal Fog Lamps.
The LED bulbs in the fog lamps I am "assuming" do not draw the amps that the H2 bulbs do, so we will see how it goes and if the need arises I will install a relay.

The LED H2 bulbs mainly "LOOK" very good and match the color of the LED head light bulbs. I dont really care if they are as bright or effective as the halogen bulbs. Like I said they look awesome. I will post a pic when I get a chance

Hmm, do you have a P/N for those LED driving light bulbs?

I bought them here. There is no part number and they came in a sealed package but no writing or anything on them... they were cheap enough to try out

AWESOME!! Thank you. Credit card will be worn a little thinner tomorrow. They'll match our 100% LED front end.

Very cool, thanx for passing along the info. I had the same wires overheated in my 86 as well, but didn't replace the connector.

I do have to ask what kind of LED bulbs did you get for your headlights, since you mentioned that as well??

Nice!! They have replacement square headlights that don't 'look' like LED. One of those sets will fit our 92 B4C 1LE car. I didn't look around when ordering the replacement bulbs for the driving lights. Thanks, again!!

I got it on the H2 fogs, but what about the 9004 headlight bulbs?? Did you go with the RMS units and if so, the 10K or 20K or 30K lumen units?

6000K xenon white and 12000 Lumens. The brand was carsparkle but they don't list them anymore. Prob sold out to another brand. Mine have fans that cool them. If car is not running and you have the lights on you can hear them. I like them and they are very bright.

The pigtail was a little tight fit but you can squeeze it in there. I have had them a few years and had good luck so far. I would never put halogen bulbs in the car again.

It illuminates the road like a new car does

I had already installed LED Headlamp 9004 bulbs long before I got the fox H2 bulbs but they match pretty good

Indeed. I went looking for LED headlights after installing bulbs in our 'modern' vehicles that have separate bulbs. Trouble is, until just recently, it's been hard to find LED lights to replace the 5" and 7" round and the 4X6" square lights on older vehicles that don't look like insect eyes. Cibie used to have them, but they seem to no longer make them. Luckily, there are some vendors stepping up, and I'm taking advantage of that now.

Awesome thanx on the LED headlight bulbs. I know Paul offers some that work well, just haven't pulled the trigger just yet. I am running the Sylvania 'cool blue' bulbs that work well for color but have the typical halogen deficiency. Luckily I don't seem to be out past sundown that often these days with my SVO.
