In my modifications to my 1984 SVO. (see post's in project zone) I have installed a Ron Francis engine harness. Also installing a Dakota Digital dash. The RF harness has wires and connector for a speed sensor off the transmission. My 1984 only had a cable. The Dakota package came with a sensor that replaced the cable in the transmission that has 3 wires to the Dakota computer. If I do not hook up the speed input to the RF harness to the LA3 ECU will I be doing something to hinder the car? Any knowledgeable input is appreciated. Thanks.

How critical is speed sensor input to the LA3 computer?

From what I recall of the many discussion on the LA3 ECU both here and on turbo ford, the VSS was not necessary for the ECU to work on other turbo fords. You may try a search on turboford.org or the turbo coupe sites concerning this topic to confirm for yourself.
I think the VSS signal for the LA3 was used to modulate boost pressure modulation to make the TurboCoupe more driver friendly.Mike S

Thanks. I ended up finding a VSS left over from a Factory Five Kit I built a few years ago. I will use a gps sensor for the speedometer. This way I can have a signal for the ECU.Originally posted by GAboySVO View PostFrom what I recall of the many discussion on the LA3 ECU both here and on turbo ford, the VSS was not necessary for the ECU to work on other turbo fords. As said above it does several minor things, like the cooling fan and subtle changes to idle, but nothing critical. If you're using the stock T5 all of the cars with cruise control had the sensor head that goes in the transmission have both the cable and electrical connections.
