  • Windshield wiper and blinker problem perhaps wiper pump also

    Gents,

I'm having a strange problem with my left hand blinker. When I turn my left hand blinker on, my windshield wipers start wiping and the blinker light on the dash does not flash. From out side the bulbs light up but don't flash and are very dim. I though the bulb was burned out so I replaced it but it did not fix the problem.

Also when I try and wash the windshield the pump seems to have lost pressure as the cleaning fluid just dribbles out. At first I thought the spray nozzle was clogged so I cleaned it by back flushing it and hitting it with some compressed air, but no change.

Is there a common ground that these items share? Where should I look to trouble shoot this?

    Thanks for any help.

I'd double check the connections on both blinker/hi/lo stalk and wiper stalk. the plastic connectors on the wiring harness are 40 years old now, and are brittle. if the clips have broken, the connectors could be coming loose and causing all kinds of weird stuff to happen.
    That's where I'd start.
I'd also check voltage at the pump when activated, to see if you're getting a full 12+ volts (battery voltage) at the pump. this will give you an idea if the issue with dribbling fluid is a blockage, or weak pump.
