yeah - not bad for a car with 200,000+ miles, huh? and, he's running a Spearco IC.

I'll try to remember to take a pic of my set up this weekend. it's a T/A kit on a TC IC. Very simple and straight forward.

Thanks, its a Spearco with an HKS bypass valve. Reed at Turbo Specialties fixed the front housing so it would dump out at the front of the turbo when I upgraded to the TO4E. We ported and massaged the front inlet so it will still look "almost" stock.

                silver84svo,

I have an 86 with a "stock" intercooler setup, I will try to take a picture tomorrow, and post it here.

I hope that is soon enough, it is the first opportunity I will have to do it.

                  tapping into the intercooler

when installing a bypass valve kit (like from TA) it requires you to tap into the intercooler. where is the best place to do this on the unit? also what size is the brass nipple and threads? are they pipe threads? how big of hose do you need and what size is the nipple on the valve itself (bosch like TA) thanks again. and remember a picture is worth 1000 words

The best place to do it is on the turbo side of the intercooler. There is a flat spot there that is perfect for it. The nipple is pipe thread, reaaly big like 3/4" (not sure...I will look, the tap to tap it cost me about $25 alone! I still have it and will look at size later)

I think the hose is a regular 1" size rubber hose. It sit on the nipple and the valve just right (nice and tight). Let me get you sizes tonight...

I will tell you this...by the time you gather up all the parts, you could have bought the complete kit from TA, and paid for shipping. Just an FYI!!

                          Hey Lon,

Your valve is on backwards - and the instructions show it backwards as well. I've seen alot of them installed just like that cause the instructions show it incorrectly. How do I know? I did it the same way and blew the sucker within a week. Paul will probably chime in here with a "yup" as well.

The male connector/vac line should be facing toward the inner fender, not straight up.

I was getting ready to say the same thing, Bud. I was just sitting here trying to remember what thread length the 3/4" tap is I put the kit on my car just like the instructions say and it ran like crap. I called Dave at Tiny Avenger and he told me of the goof up... put it on right and it worked like a charm.

You'll need a 3/4"-10 NPT tap, and a 55/64" drill bit to drill the hole for the tap. If you have a Turbocoupe Intercooler the best place for the nipple is where there's a factory hole already there. Drill that out and tap it with the indicated tap... use a 3/4" NPT nipple with some teflon tape.

                            HTH,

                            Shannon

You can run it either way. I've run it that way for 2 years now with no problem. According to Dave at TA, it will work in either orientation. But here is the diagram reflecting your orientation of the bypass.
