    That helps a lot

Thanks guys, that search thing helps a lot (I never used it before!).

It looks like this Tiny Avenger bypass kit is the way to go.

Yea that's a good idea to get the intercooler flushed at a radiator shop, I didn't think of that.

Thanks again, guys, you've been a big help

    take care,

      Tiny Avenger bypass kit

Well, now looking at the Tiny Avenger website, I found "CB001 Compressor Bypass Valve Kit" for $109.95. Is this the same kit that the people who've posted in this forum are using? If so, then is this a wise investment for the price? I'm asking because I saw a post from one person who said he payed $28 for his Bosch bypass valve, and the Tiny Avenger kit, from what I understand, uses this valve, along with a collar to adapt to the VAM and some hoses.

yup... that's it. You're basicly paying for two things; 1. the parts; which include: the bypass valve, the prefabricated collar (that's powered coated), all the hoses, and all the fittings. 2. someone's time; all parts needed were thought out and all are there along with detailed instructions.

You'll be amazed how much of YOUR time a prefabbed kit can save you. No guess work. No driving around town looking for the right parts. Not having to return parts that aren't needed or won't work.

It might seem like a hefty price for what you're getting - but it can save you money in the long run. The nickel and dimes add up after awhile.

          dryden3,

In a short answer, Yes, you could build it yourself.....but you are paying for all the time and research of someone else figuring out how to do it, making the appropriate parts, and providing this information and parts in a "kit" form.

I think it is well worth the investment, as all you have to do is install the thing. It is a nice kit. It has everything you need, and you get Dave at T/A as a resource to help you install it, if you don't understand something....just my opinion, tho....

Oh yeah...one more thing. If you get the kit, the instructions are a bit misleading....the BPV is shown installed backwards...Make sure you do not make this mistake, it will rupture the diaphram inside the valve, rendering it useless.

          Hope that helps...

            alright, that settles it then....

I'll go ahead and order up the kit. Thank-you, guys. That helps me knowing that people who've bought the kit feel it's worth its value. Yes, I did read several posts from people who damaged their bypass valves from installing them backwards, said they make a "honk" noise when they're damaged. Does the following link show the correct set-up?

mine only honked when the diaphram blew. bought a new one - turned it around and it hasn't blown after a many of miles - and I push the piss out of my car. It does leak pressure once boost goes over 18psi - but that's understandable cause it's the lower boost application one.

My advice, talk to Dave from T/A. it's his kit. if you hook it up the way he instruts and it blows ... then you can take it up with Dave. If you hook it up the way "Bud" tells you to and it blows ... Dave ain't going to give a flip about your problem ... and Bud ain't buying you a new valve.

                I just bought this kit.

I just bought this kit. No worries about what goes where, in my case, and possibly for anyone who gets it now, because they shipped it assembled. I also bought the IC replacement hoses. You may want to get them from T/A while you're at it. Save a bit of shipping and get rid of the stock turbo hoses.

I am not going to tap my IC. Or at least I'm not going to do it yet. I want to run the car with it vented out and then I'll graft a fitting into the old IC to Intake hose and see what kind of difference it makes letting the car eat the metered air.

I also bought the Gillis boost valve. I'll be putting it all in next weekend. I will make an install tech article w/pics and submit the link with Bud or Eric.

You're probably not going to like the results from that ... but be sure to check back here and tell us what happens

Your best bet is to buy another IC and tap it as shown in the instructions. Otherwise - you're going to see some problems using that Bosch bypass (recirculative) valve like it's a blow off ...

oh - btw,any SVO related tech articles are ALWAYS welcome.

If you don't already have one, pick up a Turbocoupe intercooler. The boss for the cruise control fitting is east to drill out and tap for the bypass. If you don't have the ability to do it yourself, it should only take a metal shop an hour to do it for you. Later if you want to vent to atmosphere, you can always go get a plug from Home Depot and plug up the hole in the intercooler.

Oh yea, I'm also a fan of the Tiny Avenger bypass kit. I'll pay anyday for someone elses research so I can save a day of design and a day of searching for parts.

                    Oh yea,
Bud, I took my valve off and it was blown. Put a new one on in the "sideways" position-no problems.

When I was using a Turbocoupe intercooler, I had my bypass installed just like Bud's picture and I still have my AC hooked up. Never had any issues with it not fitting.

oh yeah? so no more 'honking' either, huh?

Yea, no "honking" or "hooting". Now I have to take another refence pic so don't post bad info.

                            Location of bypass valve?

I've seen the bypass valve installed in the A/C port of the t-coupe intercooler, and also seen it installed on the drivers side near the throttlebody...
Has anyone noticed any difference in performance between the two? I've read that it should be installed as close to the throttlebody as possible.
In my opinion, pressure is pressure, no matter where it's at in the intercooler...
BTW, I've fabricated my own "kit"... I'm layed off, and have plenty of time on my hands, and little cash... Plus, I wanted the higher-rated valve... Otherwise, if I was to do it again, I'd by the Tiny Avenger kit and be done with it by now!
Dave at T/A ought to include the better higher rated valve though... How many of his customers do you think are running 15psi or under?
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!

Well, the winter is over, kind of, and I finally had the chance to install the TA kit. I installed it venting outside as I had planned.

One question I have, as SVOBUD pointed out, the Bosch valve is re-circulative, does this mean it's always open or is my valve shot out of the box? I hooked it up, top of the valve facing the inner fender and it's "always open" meaning the car will idle for a few seconds and die. If I take off vacuum, I'm fine because it closes.

So my question is, does this valve actually close under open throttle(boost) and open at shifting/idle?

                              Thanks.

                              Z.
