  • Need new tires how wide will fit

I have stock everything, wheels and suspention. How wide of a tire can I run? I know that the stock 225's were really wide for 225's so can I go 245/45 or what?

You could likely go with the 245/45, but on the stock 7" wide rim you will be tucking in the side walls pretty good. You may want to consider looking at the manufacturers' actual tread width and comparing to find the widest 225/50.

With that said, I am running 245/45ZR17 Yoko A520's (no longer in production) all around on 96 Cobra wheels (17x8) and have ~1/8" clearance between the outer corner of tread and the front wheel liner when I turn the wheels. If you get something with less offset you could gain some clearance.

Unfortunatly money is a problem so that idea is out. As you know I too have yoko A520's and won't buy another set if they were in production! Did yours like to follow cracks in the road or do you think its my suspention causing this wandering?

My A520's "tram" with the grooves, especially when I was running a lot of negative camber to the point of being 'twitchy'. I have since backed off the negative camber and it is better, but you still have to pay attention or it will walk right out your lane. I got my A520's with the Cobra wheels, so I didn't officially choose them, but was looking at them as an option anyway.

I'm presently running 245/45/16 BFG Comp TA's with 16" X 7" Ronal rims on my otherwise stock 86 9L. They fit no problem.

I also have run 245/45/16 Eagle F1's with stock SVO rims on my 84 and they fit just fine!
