Ok... my cat is rattleing like crazy.. getting worse and worse.

Right now the car has the 2.5 in down pipe, and an aftermarket cat on the car with 46k miles that bolts into a y pipe and then you have dual mufflers going to the stock exit on the car...

I was quoted $275 just to replace the cat.

    Any suggestions?

I want the car to have the stock tips in the back, and if I want to sell the car with MARTA testing in Nashville, I really probably need to have a cat on the car.. Otherwise, I would just cut it out and run a straight pipe.

Just wondering what you guys think..

    Thanks again!

If that $275 is an OEM style replacement installed, it may be a decent price. If the muffler shop is just welding on a catco to your existing system, I think you need to get another quote. I paid $50 for my new 3 inch cat and welded it in.

This is putting on a new cat, ( I assume welding it into the downpipe) and there is some fabrication that he said he would need to do where it bolts into the y pipe.

I have known this guy for a long time, and he's good. I just was wondering if anybody had any other suggestions.

Would that be something that would work???

Definitely. You can also get a new 3" Catco cat from Summit for about $50.

I would look else where and I would also use a catco instead of a stock cat replacment. They are pretty cheap on ebay I got one for 34.99 "buy it now". Even with having to do some mods on your exhaust I wouldn't think it would run past 50- 100.00. That 275.00 quote is more what a whole new exhaust system would run or pretty close to it.

I have the 3" Catco on mine off of ebay for $35, had it for about a year now, without any problems, including a smog test.

The guy that has the catco on e-bay is in state... Been looking for an out of state one.... trying to avoid the tax like the cheap basterd I am...

I think that will be the way I will go, and just get this guy to put/weld it in..

Just don't pay more than like 50.00 for him to weild it in and you will be in good shape I think.

when my cats on my 93 cobra started that crap (bassani x-pipe), your gonna laugh but I was broke and couldnt afford cats so I just revved the car up alot then drove around on the highway in third gear (high rpms) that worked great for two years after so. kinda a weak fix but hell it was free. anyway just my 2 cents

Actually... I drove it to work for the first time in over a month last week... ratteling like crazy.... I have about a 50 mile drive... When I got to work, it had pretty much stopped...

So... something either fell off, blew out, or welded together...

                        Thanks for the tip!

That happened to my N/A 93' 2.3L. one day it was rattleing like crazy and couldn't figure it out until one night I took out the trash. I opened up the gauage door and walked down to the trash can, when I walked back up I could see the tail pipe broke off the muffler. I guess it was loose enough to rattle but was still inplace where I couldn't see it off hand until it snaped.

That's about what I paid when I first bought my SVO. The girl I bought it from had hollowed out the cat, so I had to get a new one before I could register the car.

Had a 3" Catco and strick9's 3" downpipe installed a couple weeks ago. Definite improvement. The car seems to rev up quicker and seems to be run smoother while at higher RPMs.

How much did the DP run you ? I need to put a new exhaust on my SVO, well I don't need to but I WANT to

I can get the cat off Ebay for 35.00 and a I'm using a Hooker Aero chamber for 58.00, but I haven't figured out the DP yet ? Also anyone know if I can get a stock twin tail pipe tip with a 2.5" inlet? I would like to look somewhat stock

                              Thanks
