I had the same question... can you put on a 3 in DP and 3 in cat.. then run it into a 2.5 set up for the correct look... would you still get better performance, or would there be too much restriction..

I got the 84-85' SVO single tail pipe (no "Y" pipe) that has a single twin tail pipe tip at the rear. I was wondering if they made that single crome twin tail pipe for a 84-85' SVO with a 2.5" inlate instead of the 2 1/4 ?
As for your 86' SVO I would throw it in the trash its no good, just tell me where it is and I'll take care of it for ya since I like ya
But really I would run as much 3" as I could including a 3"DP and a 3" cat. As for the "Y" if they make a 3" I would use it if not go wih a 2.5" the rest of the way back. The way I always understood exhaust is this; you want to keep what ever size the collector is all the way back to the inlet side of the muffler. After the muffler you can drop it a 1/2" on the ID and be ok. O and don't go bigger ID on the tail tips than the ID of the exiting pipe is also. Now that is just what I've heard.85' SVO 9L (older) top secert
93' 2.3L LX I walk faster
04' Z71 Tahoe 16.7 @ 82mph
I never knew a four banger could be this much fun, and I may never go back to: N/A, Autos, or V-8s again

I have 3" Stick-9 DP, then a flowmaster 3" to 2-21/2" y-pipe. That means duals out the back, of course, but works fine...I had the same question... can you put on a 3 in DP and 3 in cat.. then run it into a 2.5 set up for the correct look... would you still get better performance, or would there be too much restriction..
