Recently I have been busy with making car parts from fiberglass. To be precise GT 40 Mk II brake scoops. Well two swap meets ago (two years) I bought an extra hood for the aspirations of copying it. I realize there is an aftermarket fiberglass hood available. I’ve see it and in my opinion it’s not impressive. My aspiration is not to make fiberglass version but to have a part out of carbon fiber. This part would either be a four pin or two pin/ hinge hood. I’ll have the twist locks like GT has on the front and rear clips. Here is the question. I would like to get a feel for whom, if any, would like have one. I do not want to make money from this. Though, I would like to be able to pay for the molds. I very well might just make ten and sell them for whatever to pay for the mold. I would like to get your thoughts on this. See the attached link for the Mark II scoops we made recently.

Well guys, I’m making it just for fun. And if it is anything like the snorkel project we will get orders for hoods. We are on the third set of snorkels already. And we’re getting pretty darn good at it. I just wanted to feel the group out and get you thoughts.
Brown - Actually there are many differant types of lay-ups. We are using “vacuum bagging” and “vacuum infusion”. There is a lot of free information the following website.

I suggest anyone interested in fiberglass or carbon fiber to go a head and read up on it and try it out. “Fibre Glast” is a good source to by the materials and no I’m not affiliated with them.
Other projects that I’m interested in doing in a composite material are front break ducts (fog lamp style) and front intercooler deflector/ duct.Last edited by Henson; 01-13-2005, 08:12 PM."Specializing in Brut Force and Ignorance."

As long as quality is good....price not out of control... I would be interested. Does carbon fiber accept and hold paint w/o problems? It would have to, dont want to be too "ricer" you know. I already have FMS carbon fiber tailights and an unpainted hood would push me way past the point of respectabilty
Duhhh!!!! Why dont ya put a 5.0 in that car George???

Pegasus- Yes, carbon is just like fiberglass except lighter and stronger. And I’ll be painting mine also. Unsure if I’ll paint the backside I guess it depends what it looks like. I’ll know soon, due to we’re going to make a snorkel out of carbon. The material order has been placed.
Shipping- Well I just shipped a GT40 windscreen form Oregon in a big crate and it cost $100. I’m sure it will be cheaper than that due to the weight and size. But I can bring a stack to a SVO gathering. Also I fly a lot across the country, checking one shouldn’t be a problem. Their just awkward. We’ll figure something out. The ricer voice inside me would love an unpainted carbon fiber hood on my SVO. My buddy has one on his S2000 and it just looks so damn good.
I had tought about getting some carbon fiber vinyl and covering the hood scoop trim ring for some effect, but a whole hood would be great. Hummmmm, a carbon fiber wing (upper and lower) would be sweet too!
Ok time turn my ricer voice off. I'm getting too carried away.Last edited by lonchair; 01-14-2005, 11:39 AM.
