When you list a car on eBay you can "choose" whether you are Dealer, Private Seller, or Not Specified via the check-box. Nobody oversees that, its entirely up to the individual listing the car. Also, if you list more than 5 or 6 cars in a 12 month period then eBay "brands" you for life as a dealer, so you loose all your private seller perks, even if you are a private seller, and your listing will still display as a private seller.
Here's something I ran into which caused me to walk away from Ebay totally....I was selling a 1967 Galaxie 500...VERY rust free nice easy project that ran...I only wanted $1000 for it and it sold each of the 5 times I listed it but since ebay lets people play games and doesn't hold them to their purchase the car never actually sold. Ebay removed my free listing ability and labeled me a "high volume seller" because I tried to sell the same car unsuccessfully 5 times. I ended up scrapping the car after pulling the drivetrain. The rep at Ebay failed to see my logic on how this was ridiculous to lable me a high volume seller because I listed the SAME car 5 times after bidders wouldn't pay. I eventually complained at the ebay motors booth at SEMA and that guy saw the idiocy in the decision and said he would look into fixing it but I never went back to see if he did, I was just soured on the whole Ebay stupidity.

WOW, That car was at the local auction here in Bham a few years ago....it ran the same day as I ran a 21K mile 85 LX 5.0 convertible...both in line together. Neither car sold that day but at a later sale a dealer bought the car for I believe around $17,500 with 16K on the odometer....then sold for considerably more to the owner of the Chicago Cubs. I got a call from someone who wanted to put a bi wing on it and I advised strongly against it. Then it was sold to someone else who apparently left it outside and neglected it. It has a set of my reproduction spats on it.

We are pretty much talking about the same thing...

Yes but 5 or 6 cars and 1 car being listed that many times because of bidders failure to pay doesn't make you a "high volume" seller. My point was that the the irrational opinion of some of their employees is something to beware of.

I listed a friends motorcycle 5 times and the same happened to me, so yes the same thing.
