  • '86 SVO Project

All right so here she is. Traded a 53 Ford 4-door car for her back in the fall. Haven't really got to mess with is much over the winter but I'm slowly going to get started on her. I'm kind of copy and pasting here from my project thread on another site, so if the time line seems a little funny, that's why, but I want to get this thread kind of caught up to date.

The interior is the main focus of needing attention.

Here is the specs according to the previous owner.

    Mod's:
Engine was rebuilt about 8,000 miles ago
Head was ported with a three angle valve job, 1035 felpro gasket, ported upper intake, ported and knife edged lower intake
    Adjustable fuel regulator
    adjustable cam gear
    Spec stage 2 clutch kit
    8.8 rear with 3.73 gears
Aftermarket control arms in the back
    Holly 255 pump
Stainless steel headed with 3" down pipe
    2.5 flowmaster cat back
    Powermaster one wire alternator
    Aluminum radiator
    Manual boost controller

Car is showing 56k miles which is supposed to be original

I pulled those ugly seat covers off of it, I figured what ever was under it couldn't be near as bad.

The seats are shot, but not too bad that I can't at least drive it like this for a few months. Its a little odd, it looks like the leather is over a cloth cover below it? Not really sure?

So that basically catches us up. I'm either going to recover the seats or possibly go with a racing style seat and recover the rears to match. I've got to get it in the paint shop for a little touch up. I think I'm gonna leave the side trim body color along with the wing, but I'm going to have the windshield trim repainted satin black.

I'd really like to take the car to Mustang Week, but more realistically I'm shooting for Foxtoberfest in the fall and possibly the svo reunion if funds allow.

Got the ole' girl out today for a little bit. The battery was dead of course. So after I got it started I let it run for about a half hour or so while I washed it.

I've decided to commit to taking the car to Mustang Week, last year was fun with the '13, but I miss the thrill of the foxbody cruise actually in a foxbody. But with that being said, I've got a lot to work to do between now and then! But hey, I've got plenty of time right?

Very nice! And you can still drive it while doing up the interior.

Nice looking project! Certainly looks like the PO slid the leather seat covers over the original cloth covers...interesting method. Looking forward to your updates.

They are stitched in though? Who knows!

Welp the seat situation is solved! Decided to buy my old seats back out of my old '79. Gonna order rear covers to match here shortly. As much as I wanted the original SVO's redone or some 03-04 cobra style covers on them, I just couldn't get away form how comfortable the Corbeau's are. They should come in nice on the way to Mustang Week, the SVO Reunion/Saleen Nats in Birmingham, and Foxtoberfest!

Those are nice looking seats, seems like a great alternative. Now you can work on the OEM seats whenever you get a chance and enjoy those seats.

That's my plan. Great taste in seats.

Nice! How do they match up to the factory SVO door panels?

It's a lighter grey. However, I'm really happy with color.

Yeah I know, been looking at that. But for the cost vs cost, I'm coming out 500-600 cheaper this way, which will pay for the carpet, headliner and dash pad. Plus I'm a bigger guy and I've never been comfortable in the gt style seat. I'll put the stockers up to recover one day, but right now I'm not too worried about keeping it 100% stock.

Got the ole' girl out last Saturday and let her run for a while.

Moved her up to the house into the basement so I can start working on it a little more.

Got a couple of packages waiting on me at work for her in the morning! More to come!
