If you plumb the boost signal direct to the wastegate you should see 10psi, as our stock wastegates are just that 10psi and anything over that is 'masked' by the OEM controller. Just remember that the wastegate is a diaphragm and now ~40 years old, so it could be a bit dry rotted. If you pull the turbo, I suggest pulling it off with the manifold, as it makes getting to the lower flange nuts much easier. Main caveats to that method is snaking the lower support bracket over the turbo drain line and the EGR tube. Pros and cons to each method as usual.

Removing the turbo on these cars is not my favorite thing. If it comes off for a wastegate, it will probably get a more modern turbo and wastegate. I was messing with it today because it treated all my interior work yesterday to an exhaust leak somewhere at the manifold. It has a brand new Gnari E6 and I see no evidence of a crack at the usual spot. It almost sounds like either the turbo flange gasket or a single port. Trouble is, I see no soot like you normally get.
Did I mention taking the turbo off is not my favorite pass time yet? Ford was very clever in that there is no one spot to put a wrench or your hand.

Ford was very 'crafty' with the layout of the turbo mounting on our cars...very efficient from a flow standpoint, yet a total nightmare from a maintenance standpoint for sure! My guess would be a blown turbo to manifold gasket at the bottom, where you can't really see it, if you have a leak. I would certainly consider going to a more modern turbo, like a nice Borg Warner EFR if the pocket book can support it. :-)Ted

Well I found my exhaust leak. Flange to manifold gasket farted out.
I also found two snapped exhaust elbow bolts. It feels like every one of them is officially heat tempered to glass. Who has a good turbo?
I've been trying to order a Big R stage 1 T03 all day and their site keeps clearing my cart when I try to pay.

Been a long while since I purchased an O2, when the heck did they get rid of the 1-wire units? Anywho, our cars only need a 1-wire narrow band O2. I believe the additional 2 wires are just a heater circuit, which brings it alive a bit quicker, but not necessary for it to operate. Don't quote me on that, check with the Mfg of whichever you get to make sure you don't have to tap into a keyed 12V power circuit for the sensor.Ted
