  • flaming river manual steering rack

I did a search and didn't really come up with the answer I was looking for.

Can I just purchase the rack seen here (is this even the right one?):

Or do I need to purchase the kit?

If I don't purchase the kit, what all else would I need (aside from a shorter belt)? I'm just trying to keep the costs down.

I'm assuming it'd be fine to put in their steering shaft later on down the road? What about aftermarket front suspension? I know a lot of people like the MM stuff and a few other brands - while anything along those lines will come significantly later on down the road (read - when I'm out of college and hopefully have a job), it'd be nice to get something that will work with that later on.
    I'm 21 and I've owned 3 SVO's... Yeah I like 'em.

Why are changing your rack out for non power rack besides the cost .Rebuilt racks are cheaper.

Several reasons. I've never really been happy with how the steering feels. I like the sound of saving (even in small amounts) weight. More power through less accessories sounds good (even in small amounts). As does having less things to break / service, and I like a nice clean engine compartment.

I'm sure that a new pump / rack / hoses (they're a bit leaky and one just ate itself) would make it feel better, but that'd probably be pretty close to the cost of the manual conversion I'd guess.

The manual rack steering input end is different, so you DO need the shaft to install. The tie rod ends provided with the kit will be too short for the SVO width. I ordered a set for a Lincoln Mark VII from the part store.
