I have searched already and I wanted to get on here and see what you guys did to make them fit. Gabriel has them for our cars and bought them once before and had a friend see about putting them in but he said they wouldnt work cause the cartridge was to tall. What have you guys done to get them to fit in the konis housing?
I've used those cartridges several times before and really like them. They're a great solution to an expensive problem. However, you will lose the adjustability feature with the original Koni strut.
Here's the info.: it's Gabriel part #G44947, last time I purchased them, it cost me $60.00 per cartridge at AutoZone.
The cartridge fits perfectly. When you spin off the top retaining nut on the stock units, make sure to get all the little parts out when you pull out the piston. With the strut housing empty, pour about 1/4 cup of oil into it before putting the cartridge down into it. (The oil acts as a conductor to pass heat generated from the cartridge to the strut housing. If you don't do this, the strut cartridge will fail prematurely. I used a synthetic 5w30, but I'm not sure if it matters. If you're careful, you might recycle the original oil from the strut for this purpose. Be forewarned, it's pretty smelly.) With the oil and cartridge in, its time to put the retaining nut on to secure it all in place, and voila, you're done!
Be aware that there's a spacer on the top of the original strut set-up that you'll need to reuse. The cartridges don't come with them, and sometimes these spacers corrode themselves into place, making them very hard to get off. If you can't get them off, the complete repalcement struts from Gabriel for the NA mustangs come with them new. Not saying, just saying.
I recently did this repair on the 7B. I took some pic.s, but not a complete photo documentary. I'll see if I can post them up. Good luck!
Just another note; I found that you don't necessarily have to remove the rotor to get at the strut bolts and nuts, so long as the bolts are mounted from the back side of the spindle and can slide out that way.
PM me if you have any other questions, and I'll try to help you out.
Anothter note; RockAuto has them for $15.23 ea., and says they're on wholesaler closeout--only 16 left, which may mean they're going obsolete. I picked up another pair for myself, cost $38.05 with shipping.

For those of you going the 'budget' route with your strut rebuilds, ya better give Rock Auto a call. After my order today, they only have 14 of the Gabriel G44947 strut inserts remaining. And at $15.23 each, it's a super bargain. They are being discontinued so after they're gone, you gonna be stuck using AC Delco stuff for three times the price each. JSYK!
