  • Ford Motorsport Heavy Duty Rear Upper Control Arms

Is this an upgrade for the SVO or did this item come on the SVO? Basically I want to know if the bushings in these control arms a stiffer durometer then the stock SVO bushings.

    Thanks

I have never heard that the durometer of the SVO rear control arms were anything special, but you never know. With that said, the HD arms' bushings are firmer than the stock units, which will reduce the amount of axle wind up/down on accelleration and braking. Since the upper arms also control the side-to-side movement they will reduce that also.

Personally I would get the HD uppers and put polys in the axle mounts, while you are under there. Those bushsings take a beating and sometimes even end up walking toward one side of their shell. When this happens they should be replaced.

Also, don't tighten down the arm bolts with the axle hanging down. You need to have the suspension loaded, since the rubber bushing sleeves don't rotate in a rubber bushing. If you do, you will preload the bushings and could prematurely wear them as well as cause some strange handling attributes. Good luck.

      hd rear control arms

      SVONO5OH,

THanks. my SVO only has a bit over 40,000 on it and I just replaced my koni's and I am just not happy with how this cars suspension feels. I am ordering new rear control arms, new onionheads (i dont want to go to C&C plates) and am going to replace all other bushings as well. Poly probably, although I am concerned with squeaking. I am also stronly considering the motorsport B springs as well (although with Michigan roads I am really thinking this over).

Your concern for squeaking is a valid one. After I installed my poly bushings they began to squeak after about 1 year. I modified them and installed grease zerks on all of them. A quick squirt of marine grease once a year keeps my squeaks away.

If I remember correctly the FMS ones were "police" parts. The stockers had holes on each side of the bushings for a "better" ride. The FMS ones had solid rubber bushings in them. I think I have a set stashed in the garage somewhere, I'll take a look...
