  • Help Parts Rag Joint

Ok, while replacing the rack in Project Bolo, it was also time to replace the rag joint which was in pieces. I got the Help parts 31000 replacement and the kit has a ton of bolts, unique fasteners and other stuff. What gives? I know the original rivets had to be drilled out, but what are all these other parts for? Did anyone use them and if so, which ones. I can take a picture and show the ones I have if it would help.

    Thanks and happy new year.

Here is the Motormite file photo, but it doesn't show all the parts

    Paul,

I had the same quandry when I looked at this kit, although I had part number 31005, which probably has the same hardware in it. BTW, the disc smells funky, huh?

I used the 2 similar, shiny, smaller hexhead bolts, washers, nuts, and reused the angled/pointy retainer thingies on one side. (upper right in pic 2 of attached post)

And then reused the set of fasteners that connect to the bottom (where it splines to the rack and pinion) of the rag joint.

I used alot of loctite too.

See pic 3 of this post too. If you have more questions, reply here, and I will call you this afternoon and send more pics from when I did it.

      Yup, wrong part

Kurt, I see my mistake here. I have the wrong part which accounts for the diameter being off and the holes being out of alignment as well. However I assume the parts in each kit are the same, so once I finish my EMT-B final on Wed and following practical exam, I'm back to the car. I'll post up a couple of photos of the hardware that comes with the kit and I'll let you guys tell me what parts you used. More to come. Thanks

Pic one and pic two. Use the new bolts, nuts, washers and safety pointed thingies (works with the safety strap)where the rivots were...8 pieces total. Other than the disc, pitch the other stuff (unless the empty spot on your desk where MY injectors were, just looks too lonely now)

Pic three: reuse the bolts nuts on the flange where it connect up to the rack, and layed out prior to reinstall

Note: on the bolts you reuse, the shouldered (smooth shank portion) area would not fit through the holes of the disc. I simply took a 1/2 drill bit and VERY CAREFULLY opened up the holes on only those 2 places.
