  • SN95 Cobra swap W/problems..Help!

I swapped out the front suspension tonight with all of the parts from the 2004 Cobra. LCA, Spindles,Blistien shocks and left the stock springs.
There are two problems that I see..
    1. The stock springs appear to be too long now because the spring perch is higher on the sn95 LCA. Does anyone have any ideas as I was wanting to keep the stock ride height.
    2. the blistein shocks seem to limit the travel in the lower control arm a lot. There is no where near the travel that I had with the stock stuff.

Ok...3 problems. I believe I will have to swap out the tie rod ends because I have a tremendous amount of tow in.

Any ideas would help me in my decision of what to do next.
    Thanks, Ernie

Put it all back to stock and give it to your daughter like you said you would.

I knew that plan would never hold up.

You need to cut the front springs in order to get the same ride height as before...you can maybe remove the spring isolators to lower it down a bit, but NVH may increase. If you do cut the springs, cut with a hacksaw instead of the gas-axe. You'll probably need to cut a full coil out.

To get the suspension travel back, you may need to swap the SN95 Bilstein struts with 87-93 FOX body front struts...this may give you an extra inch of suspension travel.

You may need different tie rods, but I doubt it. Adjust toe, then count the number of threads the tie rod screws on...if you don't have enough threads, you may need Maximum Motorsports MMTR-6, and ask for the tapered stud instead of the bolt.

Since most original SVO front springs I've run into have half a broken bottom coil anyway (where they sit into the LCA pocket), could you run a set of FMS or Eibach lowering springs and get the same effect as cutting a coil off?

The SVO tie rod ends are to short for the sn95 stuff. Go to your local parts store and order some inner and outer tie rod ends for the sn95 stuff and that should fix you up. Later, Chris H
