  • Rear Caliper Problem

    Hey Guys!

I can't seem to get the piston of my rear calipers to retract at all. It turns using the brake tool, but it is not retracting. Is this a common problem with our calipers? Am I doing something wrong? Please Help!

    Thanks

What kind of tool are you using? You need to compress AND turn at the same time....the little generic cube type tool doesn't cut it...

Compress and turn! Ok...that is my problem...I only have the generic little cube thing. Where can I get the proper tool? Is this something that I will have to get from Ford?

      Thanks Again

You don't have to go to Ford for any tools(they couldn't help you anyway). Your local auto parts store may have it, some places like Autozone have tools you can rent and may have the proper tool. NAPA sells them as well as all the tool trucks(Snap On, Matco, MAC). It uses a piece of metal almost in the shape of a brake pad that positions against the outside of the caliper and a disc with 2 holes that locks into the piston and puts pressure on the piston while you turn it.

Thanks again Paul! I'll check with NAPA tonight.
