  • Stock quadrant vs. aluminum

    I have asked the quadrant question in the past, but have noticed that there are quite a few who have replied that you would buy the factory Ford quadrant instead of an aftermarket.

    What does the majority say about this?

    I've heard some of the aftermarket put additional stress on the cable. I have the stock one on for 120k now, so it makes sense to simply replace it with a stock one, when needed.

    That way I can save money for a bigger carburetor for my SVO....now then I've just got to find the stock carburetor location.

      Yep, Stick with the stock geometry. Do a search.

        Majority on this forum...

        I presume Ford still sells the 1986 SVO quadrant.

          The UPR quick release is the one that puts too much stress on the cable...the Motorsport and Steeda 3 hook work fine.

            It is still available and Ford sales the assembly for around $42

                I know this is out of left field, but I prefer the assembly used on the '79. You can't get more bulletproof than it was and it was fully adjustable from the factory.

                I have noticed that there were a lot of nifty things originally used on the '79-'81 that changed when the location of the door handles changed.

                    Got mine last week, about $50 with tax, they came down at my Ford dealer a few $$$.

                          SVOPaul - do you mean the Steeda Double Hook qaudrant? I couldn't find anything on a Steeda 3 hook...

                            Steeda makes a double hook, haven't heard of any issues with them. Their kit comes with correct spacers to keep the quadrant and cable in line. I've had the UPR triple hook on my old car and it ended up fraying the factory cable. But I think the problem was because I didn't properly space the quadrant to line up with the cable. Alot of these aluminum quadrants do not have these spacers or sleeves that are needed to keep everything inline.

                              I've had the 2X hook Steeda quadrant and firewall aduster in my 86 for over 2 years and not one complaint. The only problem was getting the old quadrant out.....THAT was an itch-b!!!!
