Cheap Ford Axels for SVO (Hint, LSC)

I had to replace my axels in my 84 SVO this week and found that new after market axels are expensive. I also found that I was unable find anywhere where anyone could tell me 100% sure what axels would swap. I found on one site that the 82/83 Lincoln LSC would work but it kind of limited my range. I found several sites that discussed the Ranger / Aerostar / 94-04 mustang axels. None of them would say that these options are applicable to the SVO. I went to O’Riley’s and asked for the bearings for the svo and then checked it against a couple of guesses. The first one was the 88 Lincoln LSC (which has an 8.8 rearend). The part numbers were identical. (I was starting with this option because there were a couple for sale on Craigslist). Knowing that the bearing race was the same, knowing that the bolt pattern was the same, I bought a pair of them for 100 bucks. I took them to the shop and compared them using dial calipers, and Wala, they matched. One worry I had was that the SVO has a 7.5 rear, and the LSC has an 8.8. It turns out to be a non issue as long as the tooth count is the same; in this case they were both 28 tooth. Now keep in mind that the LSC has an exciter / attenuator ring for the ABS. Don’t worry, the ring knocks right off and you end up with an exact match.

So in order to make finding this easier for the Googles "82-92 Lincoln (LSC / Mark VII) 8.8 or 7.5 Axels will swap into an 84-86 SVO 7.5 Rearend." See attached Photos.

I know that the Ranger axles are Fox length--too short, and the SN95 axles, although longer than the Fox axles are also too short. The Lincoln LSC's seem a natural since SVO's use the LSC rear brakes (apparently, brackets and all). Now the question is, is it cheaper to order up Lincoln LSC axles than buying new SVO axles? Do the replacement part #'s cross-over?

P.S. Rich Mora has done swaps using both of these axles on his copper car, trying to get just the right width to fit his meaty rear wheel and tire combo under the wheel wells. This is how I know...

This is for someone thinking of used axels. Ford tells me that both of these axels are out of production. If you look at the pics at the link above you cant see any difference. So I dont know if the part number is the same, but the axels are.

Call the junk yard, MUSTANG SVO axles (that sounds like a hard-to find part) that'll be 9 billion dollars.

Call the junk yard, 1982 lincoln continintal, (what a POS) $20 bucks...
helpfull if you can find them, but the only 2 real solutions I know of
1 - axle savers
2 - new moser axles.

82-83 lsc??

There were no LSC cars in 82-83, Those were Mark VI cars, I think I'd stick with 84-92 Mark VII cars for the common axle. These are not easy to find anymore either from my experience, at least not where I live. I've been driving a '87 LSC for 20 years and still love it

everything posted in this thread is listed elsewhere in this forum. there's really no new information here. Tony posted his info, so you don't look like a retard when you go ask for a 82 LSC axle, since there were no LSC's in 82.

So I'd suggest losing the attitude.

I'm sorry if you are disapointed, but the info is here, and easily found via search. I don't think there is any need to have a sticky about Lincoln's having the same axles, as those lincoln axles are as hard to find as the SVO axles.

I 'choose sides' every time I type up a reply. generally, something called common sense guides me, that's all I'm using here. If you'll take 30 secs to READ all this, and see how you are coming off, I hope you'll change your tune, if not, better get your fare-well typed up now, becuase I just can't stand drama queens.

Not to add fuel to the fire, but sometimes, when a common topic comes up that's been beat to death before, we just wait for you to find the answer on your own. Sorry if the answers didn't come quick enough, but I'm glad you found a reasonable solution.

Ok, removed my other post, my apologies to almost everyone. I looked at the links provided and found them not as clear / explicit as needed. Subjects were not on this topic, but you are right that buried in them is the answer. I originally came across these topics when I was using the Site search (yes I did use it and Google) but was overwhelmed by the number of post that did not appear to be on topic. I I read a few but only found the some old info on Rangers and SN95 type stuff. Had no way to know that this question was buried in another topic. Be that as it may, I think it is worth while to have this question in simple easy to find search terms for the people in the shallow end of the gene pool (Like Me). I do appreciate the helpful feedback (You know who you are), and I overreacted to a couple of comments, I viewed them as unhelpful, and did not contribute to my original purpose for posting this and taking the pics. It was to help the next guy that found themselves in a bad position, little money and less time. No drama, just some helpful info in an easy to find format. That’s my last say on the subject. Ban me if you like.
