  • Clutch Quadrant Replacement Recommendations

I am looking into getting an adjustable cable and quadrant setup, so read many posts on clutch, shifting, and chatter problems and noticed some using adjustable clutch cables and quadrants, but most never post any pros and cons on their installation and how they like their setup...So any recommendations?

On the last 84 Turbo Gt I did I put a new clutch in it and the pedal was pretty high. I wound up putting a firewall adjuster and a triple hook quadrant in to cover all the bases. With that set up I have plenty of room to adjust.

I have bought the same parts for my SVO that I am working on now. I probably will make that a standard in the future.

When I replaced the clutch and PP on our 86, I also had a high pedal. I _think_ I even used Ford parts, so I don't know why it was different, unless we were replacing an aftermarket clutch assembly.

I ended up using an firewall-mounted cable adjuster to get the pedal back to 'normal' levels. I was amazed how much adjustment it took to get back to where I was used to having the clutch pedal. Love it.

My SVO with many miles on the clock, needed the firewall adjuster and 2 hook aluminum quadrant to make it happy. HUGE difference for me and this was after installing a new clutch as well. Smooth shifting from now on!

I put in a single hook and had to adjust the cable alot. If i were to do it again i would use a double or tripple hook quadrant.

Thanks everyone...I did the lift up pedal trick and had to manually adjust the quadrant and helped a lot so I will be going that route very soon...Again thanks!

After using a few different 3 hook quadrants and having cable issues I found the Granatelli
was the only one that lined up right for me.

I had issues with "line up" as far as the center of the groove on the quadrant aligning with the hole in the firewall where the cable goes through, however in my case I just added washers on the shaft where the quadrant mounts to move it over where it needed to be. It was a issue that turned out to be a non issue, just had to use a few washers, thats all.

MAPS - I also had to add washers, fixed it up real fine.

fwiw, i absolutely love my MM setup.

I had to modify the the hook on the clutch fork side of the cable, but besides that it all fit. But uninstalling and installing a clutch quadrant is a major PITA

                              Roy,
Can you send me the EXACT clutch cable kit P/N you used. I ordered one form American Muscle, and it is for a 5.0 and wont work, so says my brother who is installing it for me(I am stationed in germany and trying to get it ready before I come home for 10 days)...pretty please with sugar on top!!
                              Thanks,
                              Jack
