Those indeed are wiseco pistons. However if the motor is running properly they wouldn't have failed. That indeed is from detonation. Just because they broke doesn't mean that they are week. I've broke factory pistons in the same fashion due to detonation.
Once the motor is back together he needs to make sure it is tuned properly. Does the OP have a wideband O2?

I'm getting ready to order pistons and rods. Is this a common failure regardless of brand (Wiseco, JE, other)? Or is this a Wiseco specific piston failure?Originally posted by Jcamper View PostI think you'll find those are forged Wiseco pistons, thats what it looks like. Not to thread jack, but on the discussion of rod length's, I've seen 5.5" rods and matching weisco pistons from racer walsh. Anyone have any experience with those, compaired to the 5.7's? I was told that the 5.5rod/piston combo consumed less oil, and was more streetable. Just a bit curious.

wow, fast on that post. Like em? How's it run? I would really like to know. Worth the money? I have a 92 ranger 2.3 sitting out(smaller mains) i was thinking about building w/ 5.5's but i wasn't sure. But then i was thinking i may as well go big, and pull a 2.5(to get the edis stuff since i'd go ms) from the scrap yard, and do it big. Then my wallet had a disagreement with me. so it's all still speculation. I hate being poor.
