  • New Oxygen sensor; Re-learning

I put a new O2 sensor on my car and need to take it through emissions tomorrow and I'm wondering if there is any learning that the CPU needs to do before I take it there.

so if it needs to learn this new sensor, Do I need to disconnect the battery for awhile and then drive it some before I get there? How long for disconnection? Do I need to drive it for 3 cycles like the OBD-II cars?

    Thanks,

    Jim

No. It's a plug and go.

during closed loop, its plug and go. the computer _might_ take a few cycles to adjust its open loop tune trim, but thats non applicable to emissions testing.

make sure your cat is good and HOT before going through emissions.

Put her thru the paces at the local track. or if that is not applicable, go get a few cops to chase you then ditch them on the way to the emissions facility. be sure to have novelty plates, or no plates at all thou. and wear a ski-mask so no one can photo you driving.
