  • "Parts store" replacement for oil cooler gasket?

I need a new oil cooler gasket. And no... It's not the same as the oild filter gasket. My first thought too. It's slightly bigger.
Called around, and nobody has a listing for it.
I know Forced4 and other vendors have them, but I'd love to get one locally so I can finish putting everything on the engine tonight.
So does anyone know a secret part number or anything for a suitable replacement?
If it ain't broke... Give me some time!

or you can pull this trick.

Go to wal-mart, and buy a cheap FL1A filter, pull the gasket off, and presto! -- toss the filter.

I took the one of my old FL1A thinking that... It's not interchangeable.

I might go check out that FA-1 filter though.

For years, I thought this part was a "one only" Ford part - bought them for $19+ when/where ever I could.

Then I found that the gasket sets (Felpro I think) came with these oil cooler gaskets. Got lots of them now.

I didn't see anyting in my gasket set, but I'll have to look thru it again... The Napa guys seams to think it should've been in there, although he had no seperae listing for it.

On another note... I spent 20 minutes opening up oil filters at autozone, and didn't find any with the right size gasket.
Parker 2-334 seems like the best fit as far as standard o-rings. Of course, it's not one I can "get" here at work.

NY Eric... Out of curiosity, is the Ford one molded, or just a simple round rubber gasket? I can't tell if the original one is just deformed or if it was molded like this. It seams to be molded around the bypass port.

Yeah, there are a few little humps on the inside of the gasket. It's not perfectly round. I have one that was torn a little. I would just get the right part and be done with it.

My felpro gasket kit came with one, I have one sitting here.
I'm not sure why you were searching through oil-filters... it's the standard FL1 motorcraft filter, or the 300 (only difference is one is 1 quart, other is 1/2 quart)

SVOEric. The standard FL1A filter gasket doesn't fit in the oil cooler groove.

Maybe they made some design changes? It's happened before. I even called Dragpak and he took an o-ring out of an FL1A filter, and it wouldn't fit a cooler he had sitting on the bench.
Why are you acting suprised? Haven't you seen wierder things with these cars?

                              Fel pro

If you get the complete engine set for a 2.3T from Fel pro it will have one in the box. I don't think you can get it separatly from them.
